Greensburg Central Catholic senior Keeley Maloney must be tired of the horrible spring weather in Western Pennsylvania.
Her mom, Lori, isn't sure that was the reason her daughter signed a letter of intent to run track at Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif., but the Washington Township (Fayette County) resident will be sprinting for the Waves next fall.
She plans to study sports management and law at Pepperdine. Assistant associate director of communications Roger Horne said Maloney is one of the incoming student-athletes.
Maloney, who also played tennis and soccer at GCC, recently finished second at the Westmoreland County Coaches' Association championships in the 100, with a time of 12.92 seconds.
She entered the week seeded eighth in WPIAL Class AA in the 100 and fourth in the 200. She also runs the 400 and is part of the 400 relay team.
Her personal-best time in the 100 is 12.84. The top time in the WPIAL is 12.34 by Maddie Raymond of South Park. Maloney's 200 time is 26.61. Raymond's best time is 25.78.
Maloney was a PIAA qualifier in the 100 in 2017. She placed seventh in the WPIAL.
