Don Holl said he suffered no flashbacks to last season’s WPIAL semifinal against McKeesport as the Tigers converted a hook-and-lateral on a last-gasp drive.

His quarterback, meanwhile, couldn’t bear to watch as he sat on the Gators bench.

But Gateway didn’t let history repeat itself, holding off McKeesport’s last-ditch rally to beat the Tigers, 28-21, in a Class 5A semifinal Friday night at Norwin Knights Stadium and advance to next week’s WPIAL championship game against Penn-Trafford at Heinz Field.

Walker’s 2-yard run made it 20-14 through three quarters, setting up the dramatic finish that sent Gateway to Heinz Field for a rematch with Penn-Trafford, which dealt the Gators a 28-0 loss earlier this season.

“It’s all about revenge with Penn-Trafford,” Walker said. ” … (We have to) just come out at Heinz and just pound the ball and throw the ball like I usually do.”
