Freedman steps down as Gateway boys basketball coach

Daryn Freedman on Wednesday evening confirmed he is stepping down as head coach of the Gateway varsity boys basketball team.
Freedman said his desire to return to coaching in college led to his decision.
He served four seasons at the helm of the Gators and guided the program to four WPIAL playoff appearances and the 2016-17 Section 3-5A championship.
Freedman's Gateway teams compiled a 51-41 overall record.
Before coming to Gateway in the fall of 2014, Freedman coached five seasons at Kiski School. He also had experience at the high school level as an assistant at Sewickley Academy.
He worked in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers and served on the staffs of John Calipari at Memphis and Ron Everhart at Northeastern and Duquesne.
