Frazier new No. 1 team in Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class A rankings

Frazier girls volleyball remained undefeated in Section 2-A last Thursday with a 3-1 win over California.

The Commodores, also 11-1 overall, are the new No. 1 team in Class A as the Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association released its latest WPIAL girls volleyball rankings Monday morning.

Serra Catholic (10-0, 8-0 Section 4) slipped from the top spot to No. 2, while Bishop Canevin (12-1, 9-0 Section 3) moved down one to No. 3 in Class A.

North Allegheny (8-0, 5-0 Section 1) holds on to the No. 1 spot in Class 4A, while Hampton (14-0, 9-0 Section 1) remains No. 1 in Class 3A. Freeport (12-1, 10-0 Section 5) again is the top team in Class 2A.

Burrell returns to the rankings in Class 2A at No. 8.

Section play enters the stretch run this week with the final section play date Oct. 19. The top four teams from each section again qualify for the WPIAL tournament.

The playoff pairings committee is scheduled to meet Oct. 20, with the playoffs tentatively set to begin Oct. 23.

Each week, every WPIAL girls volleyball head coach will has the opportunity to vote for the teams who will appear in the top 10 for each classification.

Also, the players of the week are selected based on coaches nominations.
