Fox Chapel senior cross country runner Grace Sisson has experienced much success in her previous three years.

The highlight was the Foxes capturing the PIAA team championship two years ago.

“I’ll always remember that,” she said. “It was an amazing feeling.”

Running has been a part of her life for a while.

“It came naturally,” she said. “My family consists of a lot of runners, so I’ve always had an interest in it.”

She also runs track.

“I love both, sports and I hope to continue with both wherever I go to college,” said Sisson, who plans to major in psychology. “I’ve been talking to some schools, but I haven’t made a choice yet. I am confident that I will be able to contribute to the team as a freshman. There will be a lot of hard work involved, but I’m ready to do what I need to do.”

She has been spending a lot of time this summer getting ready for her final high school season.

“I had some shin problems at the end of the track season, so I’ve been doing a lot of running, stretching and lifting. I’ve been running about seven miles a day, and as the season draws nearer, I’ll be increasing that number. I’ll be ready.”

“We practice three times a week, and we’re all working hard towards continuing the success we’ve had the last couple of years. Even though we didn’t repeat as state champions, we had a good year last year. We finished fourth at WPIALs and ninth at states.”

The Foxes lost three of their top five runners to graduation, but Sisson remains confident.

“We have a lot of good young runners who realize that it will take a lot of dedication and hard work to have a successful season. There are a lot of good teams in the WPIAL, and we all believe that we will be one of them.”
