Tragic news out of Beaver County on the brink of a new football season. Three weeks from the start of the 2012 high school football campaign, one of the top WPIAL Class A football players from 2011 was killed in a New Brighton shooting.  18-year old DeAndre Moon of Rochester died early Wednesday morning from a single gun shot wound.

Authorities have not made any arrests. Moon was apparently shot on a houseboat and was taken to Heritage Valley Beaver hospital by a friend where he later died from loss of blood.

Moon rushed for 1,675 yards on 220 carries last year and was named an all-conference and all-state running back.  He helped the Rams to a 8-1 regular season and a berth in the WPIAL Semifinals where they lost to eventual champion Clairton. Moon was also a standout linebacker for the Rams.

Moon was preparing to start his college career after accepting a scholarship to Concord University, a Division-II school in West Virginia.
