Derry hired a boys basketball coach Thursday to replace Damon Rause, who stepped down after eight seasons.
The new coach will be a familiar name to Derry followers. Tom Esposito takes over the program after coaching the Trojans from 1999-2006.
Esposito was Rause's assistant the past two years.
“I'm looking forward to giving everything I have to our players to be the best team possible,” Esposito said.
Derry flirted with the WPIAL playoffs this season, finishing 8-12 overall and 4-8 in Section 1-4A, good for fifth place and three games out of fourth place and a potential playoff spot.
The program has not had a winning season since 2000-01 and had not been to the playoffs since 2007-08. Rause was 47-119.
