Great defense was the story in the fourth week of the area college football slate. A shutout in the PSAC, a goal line stand in the PAC and good battles for the top spot in both the PAC and NCAC. Plus a big win for an area team in their first ever conference game.

Here are recaps of all the games:

IUP 17 – Slippery Rock 0

IUP dominated the PSAC-West division opener as the Rock was held to 143 yards offense, including just 24 rushing yards. It's the first shutout of SRU since 1996, a 22-0 loss at Youngstown State.

The troubles started early for Slippery Rock, as quarterback Ryan Sabo fumbled the opening snap, setting IUP up at the Rock 24. But the defense held and Craig Burgess missed a 42 yard field goal. After a very short Slippery Rock punt, Teddy Brakeman scored on an two yard run, capping an eleven play drive.

In the second quarter, Slippery Rock drove down to the IUP 20, but C.J. Bahr missed a 37 yard field goal wide left with 4:27 remaining in the half.

There was no scoring until the early stages of the fourth quarter, Burgess tacked on a 25 yard field goal, making the score 10-0. Slippery Rock drove to the IUP 30, but removed all doubt of the final score with a 75 yard Pick Six.

Akeem Satterfield was shut down, he gained 56 yards on 27 carries. Sabo was 10 of 30 for 119 yards, he was sacked four times. Junior linebacker Zach Sheridan had twelve tackles for the Rock. Slippery Rock falls to 3-1 overall, after winning the first three games of the season for the second straight year.

Blakeman ran for 87 yards on 24 carries for IUP, Bo Napoleon was 10 of 15 for 79 yards, he did not throw a pick after throwing five last week. IUP did turn the ball over twice, they go to 3-1 overall.
