District College Football Recap for Saturday, September 18th

Conference play opened up in the WVIAC and the PAC on Saturday, while others have one more week to wait.
Here are recaps from every game around the district:
Slippery Rock 33 – West Chester 27 in Overtime
C.J. Bahr tied the game with a 47 yard field goal with 31 seconds left in regulation and Akeem Satterfield scored in overtime to get the Rock to 3-0 with the win at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium. SRU is now 3-0 for the second straight season and third in the last four, it was also the 150th win for Dr. George Mihalik at the Rock.
After a scoreless first quarter that saw both defenses take center stage, the Golden Rams were able to take a 7-0 lead on a D'Andre Webb four yard run. SRU answered with a 39 yard Bahr field goal to cut the lead to four. Mike Mattei found Dan DePalma for a 27 yard scoring strike to put West Chester up 14-3, the Rock scored late in the half on a Ryan Sabo four yard pass to tight end Josh Gardner.
Shawn Leo started the third quarter scoring with a 33 yard field goal to make it 17-10 West Chester, then red shirt sophomore Akeem Satterfield took over. Satterfield scored his first touchdown from eleven yards late in the quarter to tie the game at 17.
Brian McDermott gave West Chester back the lead on a 1 yard run, 61 seconds into the fourth. Satterfield answered with a six yard run to knot the game at 24 with 8:30 remaining. West Chester drove eleven plays, and took 5:46 off the clock, but had to settle for a Leo 20 yard field goal. Set up in great field position, SRU got into position for Bahr to tie the game.
In overtime, Satterfield scored on the second play, but Bahr's extra point was blocked. Slippery Rock, forcing an incompletion on fourth down and twelve from the Rock 13 to seal the win.
Satterfield ran for 191 yards on 26 carries, Sabo was 12 of 15 for 135 yards. Junior cornerback Andre Freeman led the team with thirteen tackles.
West Chester falls to 0-3, the Golden Rams were the favorite in the pre-season poll to win the PSAC-East.
Thomas More 36 – Geneva 20
The 12th-ranked Saints handed the Golden Tornadoes their second straight loss at Reeves Field. Thomas More jumped out to a rare 2-0 lead when Geneva was called for a penalty in the end zone. Domonique Hayden gave the Saints a 9-0 lead, capping a fourteen play drive with a four yard run. Geneva got on the board as Corey O'Patchen caught a 59 yard touchdown pass from David Girardi, one play after a Tucker Nuetzel interception. Hayden added his second touchdown on a 20 yard run with 4:07 remaining in the first half, making it 16-7 Saints at the half.
Gerald Muschette started the second half scoring on a one yard run, cutting the lead to 16-14. Hayden took the lead right back with a 28 yarder to make it 23-14. Kendall Owens returned a punt in the fourth quarter for a score, but Girardi hit O'Patchen with a 42 yard pass with 6:29 remaining to cut the lead to ten, but Hayden scored on a ten yard run to end the scoring, his fourth touchdown of the night.
Hayden ran 27 times for 180 yards, Thomas More is now 2-0 and avenged a 2008 loss at Geneva. The GT's were led by O'Patchen's six catches for 132 yards. Muschette ran for 78 yards on twenty carries. Geneva falls to 1-2.
Washington & Jefferson 59 – Bethany 21
The Presidents won their 28th consecutive against the Bisons, cruising to the easy win in the conference opener for both teams.
Tim McNerney scored on two first quarter runs, and Brian Baldrige added a two yard run to put W & J up 21-0 after one. Gino Rometo, one week after throwing for just 40 yards, tossed his first touchdown pass to Alex Baroffio, Josh Buckley returned a punt 55 yards and Rometo hit Jordan Roycroft with an 18 yarder to put the Presidents up 45-0 at the break.
In the third, Rometo hooked up with Adam Dominick for a 54 yard touchdown, Bethany got on the board with an Eric Walker two yard run, making Walker the all-time leader in touchdowns for the Bisons. Andrew Cappucci threw a touchdown to Jared Jones to make it 59-7 after three. Matt Grimard added a six yard run and threw a touchdown pass to close the scorebook.
Rometo finished 15 of 22 for 305 yareds and two touchdowns. The Presidents are now 1-1 overall. Walker was held to 42 yards rushing, Bethany is now 1-2 overall.
Robert Morris 30 – Liberty 23
Myles Russ scored with 22 seconds to play on a twelve yard run to give Robert Morris the win at Joe Walton Stadium. Russ ran for 153 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns, two rushing and one to open the scoring on a 67 yard pass from Jeff Sinclair. Sinclair threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns, he had three completions to Shadrae King on the winning drive to set up the Russ run. The Colonials are now 2-1 on the season. Mike Brown led the Flames with 267 yards passing and two touchdowns, he also was Liberty's leading rusher with 77 yards. Matt Bevins kicked three field goals for Liberty, now 2-1, the third coming with 1:19 remaining in regualtion to tie the score at 23.
Delaware 30 – Duquesne 6
Andrew Pierce became the first freshman in Blue Hens history to run for 200 yards in a game. Pierce ended with an even 200 on 16 carries, he scored two touchdowns as Delaware racked up 378 yards on the ground to go to 3-0 on the season. Sean Patterson threw three interceptions for the Dukes, now 2-1. Duquesne came away nearly empty three times in the red zone, scoring just a field goal. Connor Dixon set a career high with eight catches for 117 yards. Deleware has not allowed a touchdown this season.
Saint Francis 41 – Sacred Heart 0
The Red Flash picked off seven passes, Matthew Parker returned one 75 yards to the house in a blow out win in Loretto. Kyle Harbridge scored two touchdowns, he caught five passes for 84 yards, he ran twenty times for 115 yards. It was the first time Sacred Heart was shut out since 2006. St. Francis is now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the NEC, Sacred Heart falls to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Youngstown State 63 – Central Connecticut State 24
Jermaine Cook ran for 179 yards and three touchdowns as the Penguins lit up the scoreboard at the Ice Castle. Cook ran for a career high, and YSU matched a school record, equaled on 11-25-1994 against Alcorn State with the 63 points. YSU is now 2-1, with their only loss coming at Penn State, CCSU is now 1-2.
Edinboro 27 – Cheyney 21
D'Andrea Vaughn scored two touchdowns as the Fighting Scots end a three game road trip perfect to start the season. Edinboro, ranked 22nd, led 27-7 late in the third quarter, but the Wolves would not go away, scoring two late touchdowns to make it interesting. D'Mar Jeter recovered an onsides kick to end Cheyney's chance of ending their 31 game losing streak. Cody Harris threw an early touchdown pass to Jeter. Vaughn ran for 94 yards on 16 carries. Chris Anderson ran for a score and threw for two more. Anderson threw for 213 yards and ran for 75, the Wolves have dropped 32 straight.
Millersville 29 – Gannon 26
Bill Shirk scored on a one yard run with 1:06 remaining to end Gannon's six game winning streak. Shirk threw for 423 yards and three touchdowns as the Marauders go to 2-1. Tyler Batts ran for a career high 107 yards and a touchdown. Zach Boedicker rushed for 85 yards and two scores, he threw for 186 and a touchdown, Gannon falls to 2-1.
Mercyhurst 28 – C.W. Post 20
Gerald Anderson ran for two scores and Garret Kensey ran for touchdown and threw for another as the Lakers handed the Pioneers their second home loss in as many weeks. The Lakers defense came to play, forcing five turnovers. Anderson racked up 205 yards on the ground. Eric Anderwkavich ran for 160 yards and a touchdown for the Pioneers, he threw for 233 and two touchdowns. C.W. Post is now 1-2.
Bloomsburg 47 – IUP 20
IUP took advantage of two turnovers to lead 10-0, but the Huskies forced seven turnovers, including a Mike Varanavage 60 yard Pick Six and a Dan Haverstock fumble return of 68 yards. Teddy Blakeman scored both IUP touchdowns. IUP falls to 2-1 overall. Franklyn Quiteh ran for two touchdowns for Bloomsburg, Pat Carey threw for 237 yards, on 13 of 19, and a pair of scores. Both teams are now 2-1.
California 45 – East Stroudsburg 20
The Vulcans, ranked number four in the country, got two touchdowns each from Chedrick Cherry and Lamont Smith. Smith ran for 163 yards on 31 attempts. Josh Portis threw three touchdowns, but was picked off twice. Cherry caught four passes for 139 yards, the Vulcans are now 3-0. The Cal defense made life miserable for ESU quaterback Matt Marshall. Marshall threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns, but was picked once and sacked five times. The Warriors are now 2-1.
Shippensburg 28 – Clarion 24
In a game that saw six lead changes, Clarion fumbled on the Shippensburg eight yard line with eight minutes left, sending the Golden Eagles to an 0-3 start. Kevin Marshall gave the Red Raiders the lead just two minutes earlier with a 22 yard run. Marshall ran for 86 yards and two scores, Steven Adams threw for 223 yards and two scores, both to Mike Frenette. The Red Raiders pick up their first win of the season, now 1-2. Eric Coxon carried the offense for Clarion, throwing for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Jacques Robinson caught seven passes for 108 yards and a score. Alfonso Hoggard was held to 28 rushing yards, he did score one touchdown.
Kutztown 38 – Lock Haven 13
It started out as the day the 23 game losing streak would end for the Bald Eagles, as Lock Haven jumped out to a 13-0 lead as Jarryd Burkett threw for a touchdown and ran for another, but it was not to be. Kevin Morton threw four touchdown passes, two to Josh Smith as the Bears hand the Bald Eagles their 24th straight loss. Kutztown is now 3-0 on the season, entering divisional play next week.
Glenville State 38 – Seton Hill 28
Darold Hughes threw for three touchdowns as the Pioneers won their WVIAC opener. Hughes ended 16 of 25 for 253 yards. Jordan Griffin caught five passes for 118 yards and two scores. Glenville State is now 2-1. D.J. Lenehan was 23 of 38 for 212 yards and two scores. Daniel Butler added 91 yards rushing on 16 carries and a touchdown. Butler also caught a touchdown pass. Tyree Bryant returned an interception 13 yards for a Griffin touchdown. Seton Hill is now 1-3 overall.
Grove City 31 – Westminster 16
The Wolverines go to 2-1 overall, winning the PAC opener, but lost quarterback Clayton Hall to injury. Zach Gross came on and completed seven of eight passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns, Gross also scored on a five yard run. Luke O'Hara led the Wolverines with four catches for eighty yards and a score. The Grove City defense forced four turnovers and held Westminster to seven offensive points.
Westminster scored on a safety when Hall recovered a bad snap in the end zone, and a 90 yard kickoff return for Kyle Allen. Shawn Lehocky threw a touchdown pass to Nick Sorice with 7:57 remaining for the final score. The Titans are 1-2 overall.
Waynesburg 34 – Thiel 6
The Yellow Jackets forced six turnovers in the win. Sean Hunt returned an interception for a 19 yard touchdown in the third quarter. Hunt and Matt Czuelwicz each had two picks on the afternoon. Waynesburg is now 1-1 on the season, 1-0 in the PAC. Zane Garza caught a touchdown pass from Jared Soell with 4:07 remaining to break the shutout. Thiel is 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Hobart 35 – Carnegie Mellon 21
Rob Kalkstein staked CMU to a 7-0 first quarter lead on a 10 yard touchdown pass to Chris Garcia, but it was all Hobart after that as Steven Webb scored three times, including a 73 yard run to move the Statesmen to 2-0. Webb ran for 120 yards, Doug Vella threw for 274 and two touchdowns. Jared Delello ran for two touchdowns for the Tartans, now 1-2.
