When are two Bucs worth nearly 20 apiece? When you watch Sydney Bordonaro and Natalie Myers play basketball. Bordonaro and Myers are standouts on the Burrell Bucs girls basketball team. They could end up being a one-two scoring punch for the ages. Bordonaro is a 5-foot-7 senior guard while Myers is a 5-11 sophomore forward. After Thursday night’s games, Bordonaro was averaging exactly 20 points a game. Myers was averaging 18.6. They had helped Burrell to a 7-0 record. Over the past 31 seasons, there have only been four duos in the WPIAL who have averaged 20 points or more for the regular season. There is a chance Bordonaro and Myers will become the fifth.

2014 PIAA Girls Volleyball Playoffs Final Results
November 15, 2014
2014 has turned out to be a golden year in girls volleyball for Greensburg Central Catholic. On the first of the month, GCC slipped past postseason rival Bishop Canevin to capture their second WPIAL championship in the last three years, then on Saturday in Johnstown, the Centurions won another five-game thriller by edging District 11 champion Marian Catholic. It was a rare state title for a WPIAL team, ending a seven year drought since the West Allegheny Indians won the Class AA crown in 2006. Farrell in 2002 was the last Class A team from the WPIAL to win PIAA girls volleyball gold. Here are ALL of the results from the 2014 PIAA Girls Volleyball Playoffs. 2014 PIAA CLASS AAA GIRLS VOLLEYBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:

Ford City Going Out in Golden Style
The Ford City Sabers took home the AA Girls Volleyball Championship with their win in five sets over Thomas Jefferson.  The win was hard fought as both teams battled to the end and gave it their all.  For Ford City it was their first WPIAL Volleyball Championship in school history.  Remarkably, it comes in the last year of Ford City’s WPIAL existence.  Next year the school is set to merge with Kittanning.  Head coach Andrea Lasher was ecstatic as she saw her team win the final set 15-13 to seal the deal and hand TJ it’s first loss.

The Southmoreland football team failed to make the WPIAL football postseason again. The Scotties haven’t been to the playoffs since 1979, the longest current drought in the WPIAL. But there are some other playoff droughts that are notable as the WPIAL playoffs get under way Friday with 32 games around the area. Three teams in the postseason have never won a WPIAL playoff game. Never, ever, ever. They are Laurel Highlands, Mapletown and Altoona. Altoona is a little deceiving. The school re-joined the WPIAL for football only a few years ago. But the school played in the WPIAL a long time ago. Altoona has played in only two previous WPIAL playoff games. The last was in 2012. The first was in 1969 when Altoona lost to Gateway in the WPIAL final.
