Hometown Softball Program Game Recap For Baldwin Highlanders – 04/24/2013

Youth continues to lead the way for the Baldwin Highlanders on the softball diamond. Tuesday afternoon, the Highlanders won their sixth straight game with a 9-0 whitewash of the four-time defending Pittsburgh City League champion Brashear Bulls.Baldwin struck first in the bottom of the first when Mallory O'Brien drew a one out walk against Bulls starter Miranda Piccolino. She scored on a triple by Kayla Eberst. Eberst scored one out later on an error on Brashear shortstop Anna Bruecken, who's throw to first base was low, allowing Melissa Paterni to be safe as the Highlanders led 2-0.

2013 MSA Sports Hometown Softball Program Salute – Baldwin Highlanders

Youth has been served this spring when it comes to Baldwin softball. The Highlanders have started as many as seven freshman this year and after a slow start, are in the playoff chase in the very competitive Class AAAA Section 4. A year ago, Baldwin made the playoffs for a third straight year, only to lose to North Allegheny in Round One.Baldwin athletic director and former softball coach Vince Sortino provides some information on the 2013 Baldwin Highlanders.

Hometown Softball Program Game Recap For South Side Rams – 04/18/2013

In a key Section 4-A matchup, the Shenango Wildcats went on the road and took the victory over the South Side Rams on Thursday afternoon in Hookstown. Junior Kim Burdett went 4 for 4 for the Wildcats with a homer, two doubles and drove in five of the six runs. Michelle Klein went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Rams, but allowed all six runs in the circle and took the loss.

Brentwood got defensive in their WPIAL Class AA Section 4 contest Tuesday against Charleroi. The Spartans did not make any errors and played solid defense behind starting pitcher Meghan Gildea in a 3-1 victory over the Cougars."Our defense has has been great this year," said coach Jen Ditoro. "The ladies have been bringing it all year."Freshman Taryn Sherry, making her first start in center field this year, was two for two at the plate with all three run batted in. She delivered a two out, two run double in the right center gap in the 3rd inning, driving home Sydney Bauer and Alexis Gaughan, who had each singled, making it 2-0 Spartans.

2013 MSA Sports Hometown Softball Program Salute – Elizabeth Forward Warriors
April 15, 2013
This is the second year for Elizabeth Forward as part of the MSA Sports Hometown Softball Program. The Warriors finished in second place in Class AAA Section 3 last year with a 7-3 record. They finished 14-6 overall after a great postseason run that included victories over Indiana, top-seed Ambridge and Greensburg-Salem before falling to Montour in the 2012 WPIAL Class AAA championship game. The Warriors are off an running and in contention for the section title here in 2013 as they try to make it back to the district playoffs.Elizabeth Forward head coach Harry Rutherford provides some information on the 2013 Elizabeth Forward Warriors.

2013 MSA Sports Hometown Softball Program Salute – Bethel Park Black Hawks
April 3, 2013
This is the first year for Bethel Park as part of the MSA Sports Hometown Softball Program. The Black Hawks finished in fourth place in Class AAAA Section 4 last year with a 4-6 record. They finished 10-10 overall. While Bethel Park hasn't made the playoffs since 2009, the 10 wins last season was a big step in the right direction after the Black Hawks won a combined 11 games overall in 2011 and 2010.Bethel Park athletic director Amy Scheuneman provides some information on the 2013 Bethel Park Black Hawks.
