District College Football Recap for Saturday, September 8th

Week 2 saw some offensive showdowns in PSAC crossover games as teams get ready for divisional play next week.California took on their second ranked opponent of the season and the biggest question, will the Lock Haven losing streak ever end. Details follow, with recaps of all the games:Shippensburg 55 - Slippery Rock 35 Zach Zulli threw four touchdown passes, three coming in the final 4:30 of the second quarter, he also caught a td pass as the Red Raiders cruised to the crossover win at Seth Grove Stadium. Zulli, who was the PSAC East Co-Offensive Player of the Week last week, staked his claim to a second straight honor with 348 yards passing, Shippensburg had 566 yards of offense and 28 first downs.

There were not a whole lot of stars shining on the second Saturday of the WPIAL football season. No, it had nothing to do with the rainy afternoon or overcast evening. Maybe some folks weren't ready for Primetime with conference action starting in Week One throughout the WPIAL. Maybe they are showing up a tad late for the 2012 drama playing out on a stage near you. Or maybe a fast start out of the gates continued in the second furlough. A light Week Two Saturday high school football schedule was made less busy a few weeks ago when Geibel High School announced they would forfeit their first two games because of only having ten healthy players. The Gators were scheduled to host Tri-County South Conference power Beth-Center in their home opener, but instead settle for a second straight 2-0 loss. That left only three WPIAL games and two Pittsburgh City League contests on the Saturday slate, with all three District 7 games heard here on The Network. Sophomores had big games. Players who were their team’s No. 1 running back for the first time did some good things. A receiver turned running back also had a big game. The first weekend of the high school football season was a virtual coming-out party for some. Players introduced themselves to WPIAL football – and they were loud introductions. The leading rusher on the first weekend of the season was North Catholic’s P.J. Fulmore, a 10th-grader who had 265 yards. The second-leading rusher was Fort Cherry’s Koltan Kobrys, who played receiver last year. He ran for 250 yards.

Week two of the district college football slate comes your way with several PSAC crossover battles featuring East vs. West. Her crystal ball is usually still a bit cloudy from the off-season, making it difficult to foresee accurate picks. With storms throughout the Western Pennsylvania area, the district College Football season kicked off with a bang with several great games. Here are the recaps of those games:Washington & Jefferson 23 - Methodist 6 On a 95 degree day in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the Presidents survived the heat, humidity and an outage that left the stadium without power for the entire second half for the victory to open the season.

What better way to conclude opening weekend of the 2012 high school football season than for the WPIAL to put on a massive light show spectacular on Saturday night. Wait, what's that? It wasn't District 7 officials, rather Mother Nature that took center stage? Mmmm. That left only five WPIAL and one Pittsburgh City League games for Saturday. Chicks Picks – Week One – 2012

Welcome to Week 1 of the high school football season. The offseason passed by rather quickly for Chick’s Picks. Shortly after last season’s championship games, she began training to run her first 5K. This, after rehabbing from ankle surgery, Chick’s Picks thought would be a lofty goal to set for herself.That chilly March morning arrived, and accomplish that goal she did. It certainly was not pretty, but nonetheless, Chick’s Picks crossed the finish line. Now nearing her fifth 5K this weekend, she approaches each race with the same mentality—crossing the finish line is the most important part.
