WPIAL Fall Sports Realignments for 2012 and 2013

The WPIAL Board of Control officially passed the new alignments for the WPIAL fall sports on Tuesday afternoon, including girls volleyball, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross-country, girls tennis and girls field hockey. The latest chase for the MSA Sports Cup is underway as the 2011-2012 high school sports fall season is in the books. 2010 was the Year of the Tigers in WPIAL field hockey as both North Allegheny in Class AAA and Ellis School in Class AA won district titles. However in 2011, the Tigers were declawed as both defending champions lost in the championship match. Tuesday was a big night for WPIAL fall sports postseason action. From the Quarterfinals in the WPIAL Girls Volleyball playoffs to the Semifinals in the WPIAL Boys and Girls Soccer playoffs, to gold delivered with the 2011 WPIAL Girls Field Hockey Class AAA and Class AA Championships. Three of the four finalists this year have DOMINATED the district field hockey playing field since the sports inception in 1994. Between 2010 champions North Allegheny in AAA, Ellis School in AA and Shady Side Academy, the three programs have won 25 of a possible 31 WPIAL field hockey titles.
