One top high school basketball player has returned from a concussion and another important player might be returning. West Mifflin senior C.J. Hester, who averages 18 points a game, played in a PIAA Class AAA play-in game Tuesday night and was a key factor in the Titans' 66-36 victory against Bradford. Hester had 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Gateway, Montour, Monessen and Vincentian Win 2011 WPIAL Boys Basketball Titles

2011 turns into the yeaqr of virgin winners. With Gateway beating Chartiers Valley in Class AAAA, Montour beating top-seed South Fayette in Class AAA and Vincentian Academy taking care of Lincoln Park in Class A, championship weekend sees three school lift the golden ball for the first time in school history.

Shaler, Blackhawk, Seton-LaSalle and North Catholic Are Golden Girls in 2011 WPIAL Girls Basketball
Mount Lebanon and Jeannette entered championship weekend searching for more gold. The Blue Devils won WPIAL AAAA crowns in 2009 and 2010 while the Jayhawks captured AA gold last winter. But there would be no repeats in 2011. Shaler knocked out Mount Lebanon to win their second girls title and first in 31 years.

Blackhawk Back On Top In WPIAL Class AAA Girls With Win Over Ambridge

The Blackhawk Cougars picked up their fifth WPIAL Championship with a 63-49 victory over Section 2 rivals the Ambridge Bridgers on Saturday. Alexa Hayward led the way with 21 points for Cougars, who won their 12th straight game. Blackhawk shot 23 of 30 from the foul line to clinch the victory.

Defense leads Gateway to Boys AAAA Gold Over Chartiers Valley
The Gateway Gators claimed their first ever WPIAL Boys Quad A title with a 58-43 win over the Char Valley Colts. Gateway shot 20 of 43 from the field as Tyler Scott led the way with 18 points.

Greyhounds Golden as Monessen Knocks off Greensburg C.C. to Win Boys AA Hoops Title
The Greyhound is known as a race dog with great speed. Then it is appropriate that Monessen High School is nicknamed the Greyhounds, as they raced out to fast starts in both the first and second halves which keyed a 63-43 victory over top-seed Greensburg Central Catholic in the WPIAL Class AA title game at Duquesne University.

Sweet 16 For North Catholic in Win Over Ft. Cherry for Girls Class A Girls Championship
It got a little scary but North Catholic picked up their 16th WPIAL championship with a 49-43 victory over Fort Cherry in the Girls Class A championship game. The final two minutes saw North Catholic struggle from the foul line, the Trojanettes went 11 of 22 for the game.

They say that the third time is a charm. For Montour, the third battle against South Fayette turned out to be a golden charm. The Spartans stunned the basketball district with a 45-34 victory over the top-seed Lions to win the schools first ever boys basketball crown Friday night at Duquesne University's A.J. Palumbo Center.
