Butler bowler wins regional title

Butler’s Greg Wilbert got past Thomas Jefferson’s Dylan Roberts, 226-221, in a final match that came down to the last frame at the Western PA Regional High School Bowling Championships on Friday.
Wilbert defeated top qualifier JJ Bingham of East Allegheny in the semifinals, 245-239, and Roberts topped Thomas Jefferson teammate Jacob Hrizo, 191-180.
The top 12 in qualifying advance to states March 14-15.
Bingham (1,150), Roberts (1,087), Hrizo (1,060) and Wilbert (1,055) were the top four bowlers in five-game qualifying.
Also qualifying in the top 12 were Valley’s Baxter Diehm (1,055), Gateway’s Chase Owens (1,052), Greensburg Salem’s Dylan Megliorino (1,042), Jeannette’s Masen Cline (1,032), Hempfield’s Braylon Johnson (1,032) and New Castle’s Jeff Natale (1,022).
Plum’s Cade Schimmer (1,010) was 13th.
On the girls side, Katarina Cameron of Conneaut defeated Peyton Miller of Meadville in the finals.
Freeport’s Kylie McConahy was second in qualifying with a five-game series of 1,011 and lost to Miller in the semifinals.
Thomas Jefferson’s Annalise Williams (987) and Hempfield’s Amelia Droste (986) were third and fourth in qualifying and fell in the quarterfinals.
McDowell’s Taylor Kretz led qualifying with a 1,150 series.
Plum’s Brooklyn Then (981) was sixth and Addison Then (961) was ninth, Serra Catholic’s Olivia Svitek (968) was eighth and Jeannette’s Nanatlie Christoff was 12th (950), just beating out Kiski Area’s Victoria Flanagan (946).
