At the AJ Palumbo Center in the WPIAL Boys AA championship game, the Beaver Falls Tigers easily defeated the Burrell Bucs 61-33 to win their 9th overall championship for the school and their 3rd since 2005.

The Tigers started the game on a 15-0 run in the first 7:00 minutes as their defense was frenetic, fast, and frenzied, creating 18 first half turnovers. They led after the first quarter 15-2.

Burrell could not buy a basket as the turnovers and fast break of the Tigers stifled the Bucs thru the first half. Beaver Falls took advantage of every Buc mistake and their relentless offense ran out to a 32-8 halftime lead.

In the second half Burrell played better, but being so far behind it was just a matter of time before the Tigers took the title. The Bucs turned the ball over a total 31 times and had their worst game of the playoffs on the biggest stage.

The 28 point margin of victory for the Tigers was their smallest of the postseason. In four playoff games they have outscored their opponents by an average of 32.7 points per game.

The Tigers improve to 23-3 and were led in scoring by Drew Cook with 20 points. Elijah Cottril chipped in 14 and Drew Stratton had 13.

Burrell was led in scoring by Cole Bush with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Peter Spagnola had a terrific second half with 4 three pointers and ended with 14 as well. The Bucs fall to 19-7 on the year.

Beaver Falls head coach Doug Biega earned his 300th career victory and third WPIAL class AA title for the Tigers. His team will next play in the PIAA state playoffs against Bald Eagle Area High School Eagles on Saturday March 9th at a site and time to be determined.

The Burrell Bucs will also head to the state playoffs where they will face the Bishop McCourt Crimson Crushers on Saturday March 9th at a site and time to be determined.
