Baldwin and Seneca Valley have delayed this week’s football game to Saturday.

The WPIAL Class 6A schools were scheduled to play Friday night but the game was delayed after Baldwin briefly paused workouts to test its players for coronavirus. All players tested negative, superintendent Randal Lutz said Wednesday in a letter to the Baldwin-Whitehall community.

The game is noon Saturday at Seneca Valley’s NexTier Stadium.

Lutz said the Baldwin’s administration consulted with Allegheny County Health Department because a Hempfield player recently tested positive.

Hempfield visited Baldwin last Friday.

“The guidance received from ACHD determined that if the District was able to receive negative covid-19 test results for all athletes that would have played in the game, our team would be able to resume football operations,” Lutz said.

The school learned around 2 p.m. Wednesday that all tests were negative, he said, clearing the football team to resume workouts.

Baldwin is 2-1 overall, 1-1 in Class 6A. Seneca Valley is 3-1, 3-1.

Baldwin already had missed three conference games this season because of coronavirus. A virus-related shutdown by Mt. Lebanon canceled their Week 1 matchup, and then Baldwin had to cancel games the next two weeks against North Allegheny and Canon-McMillan.
