MONDAY
• The Deer Lakes hockey team looks to rebound from a two-game losing streak with a home game against Class A foe Chartiers Valley. The Lancers (4-3) will look to break out of a scoring slump: They scored one goal apiece in losses to South Fayette and Westmont Hilltop.
• Coming off a season-high 13 goals in a win over Beaver, Kiski Area hockey will look to move above .500 when it hosts Greensburg Central Catholic. The Cavaliers (4-4) are averaging more than seven goals per game.
TUESDAY
• Fox Chapel hockey faces a test against West Allegheny, one of the top teams in PIHL Class A this season. The Foxes (3-4-1) are coming off a 6-5 victory over Wheeling in which Michael Kilmer and Chase Villani scored a pair of goals apiece and Fox Chapel held off a third-period Wheeling rally. Jacob Gyergyo leads West Allegheny (7-2) and is tied for the PIHL Class A lead with 27 points.
• It's a basketball doubleheader as Cheswick Christian visits Hillcrest, with the girls playing at 5 p.m. and the boys at 6:30. Both Chargers teams are looking to replace dominant players who graduated: the boys are without 6-foot-10 center Ben Pollock, while the girls are replacing forward Kathleen Swartzwelder.
THURSDAY
• Looking to gain momentum after a slow start, Freeport hockey hosts struggling Wheeling Park for a PIHL Class A game. Kyle Hazelett leads Freeport (2-6) with seven goals. Joey Haller has six goals for Wheeling (1-7).
• Burrell posted an 8-2 victory over Central Valley earlier this season, and the teams meet again at Beaver Ice Arena. Tyler Stewart has 31 goals for the Bucs (7-2), the most in Division II.
Friday
• It's the opening day of WPIAL winter sports season, which means basketball tip-off tournaments around Western Pennsylvania. Freeport, Leechburg, Plum, Springdale and St. Joseph are among the Alle-Kiski Valley schools hosting tournaments.
• Kiski Area, Plum and Valley travel to Gateway for the season-opening Eastern Area Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Kiski Area won the team title going away last season, the opening salvo in a WPIAL championship campaign for the Cavaliers. Returning individual champions include Kiski Area's Cam Connor and Isaac Reid.
• A pair of nonsection swim meets match Alle-Kiski Valley teams as they dive into the 2017-18 season: Kiski Area hosts Freeport, and Valley hosts Springdale.
Saturday
• In addition to the final day of tip-off tournaments and the Eastern Area tournament, three other A-K Valley wrestling teams will get their seasons underway. Fox Chapel and Riverview will compete in the Hampton Duals, and Highlands will compete in the Carrick Duals.
