Riverview boys soccer coach Mickey Namey earned the 100th victory of his career Tuesday when the Raiders beat St. Joseph, 2-1, at Riverside Park.

Freshmen Carson Bodnar and Kyle Schuetz scored for the Raiders.

The win helped Riverview stay in contention in Section 3-A. The Raiders (3-7, 2-6) are tied for fifth with Aquinas Academy (4-6, 2-6).

They have key section matches coming up at Burrell on Tuesday and against Aquinas on Oct. 5.

Springdale to honor WPIAL title team

Springdale has WPIAL championship aspirations and, at 7-2 overall and 6-2 in Section 3-A, a resume to back them up.

The Dynamos will host Aquinas Academy at 7 p.m. Thursday and also will get to meet some of the champions who came before them.

Springdale will recognize members of its 1973 WPIAL championship soccer team. They will be part of the introductions and honored at halftime. There also will be a postgame gathering with the current student-athletes.

The boys soccer and football teams are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their dual championships this week. The 1973 football team will be honored before the team’s game against Union on Friday at Veterans’ Memorial Field.

Springdale also will recognize members of the 2003 football team that won a WPIAL championship Friday.

Burrell on a roll

The Burrell boys soccer team picked up its seventh straight win Tuesday, topping Springdale, 2-0, on senior night to avenge its lone loss to the Dynamos, 1-0, on Aug. 31.

Jayson Ireland and Calio Zanella scored, and Ryan Croushore posted the shutout to keep Burrell atop the Section 3-A standings with five games to play.

Kiski earns key victory

Nate Witt’s hat trick helped the Kiski Area boys soccer team to a 4-2 victory over Highlands on Tuesday, lifting the Cavaliers to a 3-2-1 mark in Section 1-3A, good for third place behind Hampton (7-0-1) and Mars (5-2-1).

Witt leads Kiski Area with eight goals this season. Austin Beck, who also had a goal Tuesday, has four goals and four assists. Liam Foley has three goals and three assists, and Phillip Harris has six helpers, including three Tuesday.

In goal, Adam Troya made eight saves Tuesday and has 93 this season.

Kiski Area (3-4-1 overall) will host Hampton at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Deer Lakes’ shutout streak continues

The Lancers started the second half of Section 2 play with a 5-0 win over Jeannette on Tuesday to improve to 9-1 overall and 8-0 in the section.
