Peters Township hands North Hills its first loss of the season

Junior running back Ryan Magiske ran for 110 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns as Peters Township defeated North Hills, 35-7, Friday night at Martorelli Stadium.

After an 82-yard opening kickoff return by Peters Township’s Josh Casilli gave the Indians great field position at North Hills’ 22, Magiske scored four plays later from 2 yards out to give Peters Township a 7-0 advantage with 10:04 left in the first quarter.

Peters Township scored again on another TD run by Magiske as he ran over right guard and broke a couple of tackles en route to a 3-yard score to go ahead 14-0.

North Hills running back Tyler Brennan had some success in the first 15 minutes of the game but had to come out late in the second quarter after rushing for 47 yards on 10 carries and would not return. Brennan missed last week’s game because of injury.

Early in the second quarter, Peters Township wideout Aiden McCall took a punt back 73 yards to extend the Indians’ lead to 21-0. On the return, McCall broke a couple of tackles on the right sideline and reversed field and gained some lead blockers as he outran defenders for the score.

The game saw intermittent downpours in the second quarter and was delayed by lightning with 8:37 left in the third quarter. The game was delayed for 67 minutes.

When the teams returned to the field, not much changed. On the first play after the delay, Magiske scampered 38 yards untouched through the defense to give Peters Township a four-touchdown lead.

Magiske praised his offensive line after the game.

“(My performance) had a lot to do with my offensive line,” he said. “I had wide open holes to run through all night.”

Peters Township rounded out its scoring on a 6-yard pass from Logan Pfeuffer to Ryan Moore with less than a minute to go in the third quarter, which put the game into a running clock scenario.

North Hills scored with 26 seconds remaining when Keygan Bryant ran the ball in from 7 yards out.

North Hills was limited to 116 yards of total offense.
