Here are four WPIAL football players to watch for Week 3:
Dan Deabner
Thomas Jefferson, Jr, WR/DB
Deabner caught six passes for 200 yards, including touchdown receptions of 35 and 80 yards in a 36-14 win over Belle Vernon. He has five touchdowns this season for the Jaguars, who will host Indiana in a Class 4A Big Eight Conference game this Friday.
Brendan Majocha
Gateway, Sr., QB
Majocha completed 9 of 10 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns as Gateway rolled to a 55-0 win over Plum last week. He threw for 177 yards and two scores and ran for 68 yards in a Week 1 win over Penn-Trafford. He’ll lead the defending WPIAL champions against visiting Latrobe for a Class 5A Big East Conference game this Friday.
Darin Mizgorski
Shaler, Jr., QB
The Titans are off to a 2-1 start after going winless a year ago, and Mizgorski’s performance is a big reason why. Last week, he completed 20 of 30 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns in a 29-28 win over Hampton. The Titans will travel to Bethel Park for a nonconference game this Friday.
Skyy Moore
Shady Side Academy, Sr., QB/DB
The versatile quarterback threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns and also ran eight times for 126 yards and a score in the Indians’ 43-14 win over Valley last week in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference. This week, Moore will guide Shady Side Academy against Steel Valley in another conference test.
