Herald roundup: Shady Side Academy boys golf off to fast start

Fox Chapel defeated Gateway, 200-236, on Aug. 30. Aidan Oehrle led FC with a 37. Owen McManus came in at 39, followed by Matt Mattioli with a 40, Grant Thiele at 41 and Will Livingston and Amani Dambrosio each posting a 43.
• Shady Side Academy boys golf defeated Knoch, 199-233, in a Section 8-AAA match Aug. 29. Adam Lauer led SSA with a 31. The Indians improved to 5-0 on Sept. 1 with a 198-286 win over Highlands. Low medalist for the match was SSA’s Brice Delaney with a 35.
Girls tennis
Fox Chapel shut out Penn HIlls, 5-0, on Aug. 29. Kristen Friday, Carissa Shepard and Emily Fera won in singles. In doubles, Lexi Quackenbush and Katie Voigt, along with Baylin Bitar and Paige Theoret posted wins. The Foxes (5-1) edged Pine Richland, 3-2, on Aug. 31.
Football
Fox Chapel fell to 0-2 after losing North Hills, 42-24, on Aug. 31. The Foxes took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 48-yard pass from Shane Susnak to Korey Simmons. The Foxes trailed 21-10 entering the final quarter.
The Foxes had no answer for North Hills’ Tyler Brennan, who rushed for 270 yards and five TDs.
Susnak finished 21 of 28 for 220 yards.
• Shady Side Academy came out firing as they dismantled Brownsville, 58-6, in their opening game Aug. 31. Skyy Moore scored twice and finished with 122 yards rushing on three attempts. He was 4 of 5 passing for 129 yards and a pair of TDs. Dino Tomlin caught a 39-yardTD pass and scored on a 42-yard fumble return
Cross country
The Fox Chapel teams swept the Gateway Invitational at Boyce Park on Sept. 1. Sarena Seeger won the 5K race to lead the Foxes girls, and Fox Chapel’s Christian Fitch won the race for the boys.
