Quaker Valley players developed throughout boys lacrosse season

The Quaker Valley boys lacrosse team (13-3) overcame a slow start to reach the postseason.

The Quakers lost to Hampton, 14-9, in the semifinals of the WPIAL Class AA championship tournament May 23.

“The early part of our schedule was challenging, along with the weather for games and practices,” Quaker Valley coach Chip Hansen said. “The team worked hard at each practice and that carried over to the games.

“We were peaking at the right time when we played a good Hampton team.”

Senior midfielder Jake Giotto said the Quakers made too many mistakes that cost them the game.

The Quakers downed Knoch, 11-4, in the quarterfinals after receiving a first-round bye.

Junior attacker David Kraus led the Quakers with 84 points on 48 goals and 36 assists in 14 regular-season games.

Giotto, a Dickinson recruit, was next with 63 points on 26 goals and 37 assists.

Junior attacker Evan Frund (51 points), senior attacker Ryan Jones (27 points), freshman midfielder Trip Eubanks (21 points), senior midfielder Joe Peduzzi (20 points) and junior midfielder Coltin Bates (nine points) contributed.

“Everyone came into the season knowing what we had to do (to achieve) our goal of winning a WPIAL championship,” Kraus said. “We will keep our standards high and work even harder in the offseason.

“Our trainer, Derek Clark, is the best. He will make sure we are in line for peak performance.”

Giotto enjoyed his time with the Quakers.

“I have met some incredible coaches,” Giotto said. “I definitely learned a lot this year on and off the field that is going to help me at Dickinson.

“I will be working out a lot this summer and practicing my shot and stick skills.”

Giotto will join a Red Devil squad that earned the Centennial Conference title and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III championship.
