WPIAL softball playoffs roundup for May 21: West Allegheny tops Trinity on walk-off single

Ashley Seamon hit a walk-off single to give No. 1 West Allegheny a 4-3 victory over Trinity in a WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinal playoff game Monday afternoon at Baldwin.
Mackenzie Partyka and Taylor Cummings each went 3 for 4 for the Indians (18-1), who will play No. 5 Connellsville in the semifinals Wednesday at a time and site to be determined.
Seamon also earned the victory in the circle.
Albert Gallatin 6, Kiski Area 5 — Despite giving up four runs in the bottom of the first, No. 7 Kiski Area rallied to tie the game in the top of the fifth before falling to No. 2 Albert Gallatin in the Class 5A quarterfinals. An erratic bottom of the fifth cost Kiski Area as an error followed by two singles gave Albert Gallatin the lead for good. Kiski Area threatened in the top of the seventh with a runner on first, but the runner was tagged out overrunning second base on a single. Annalia Paoli tripled, doubled and drove in two runs to lead Albert Gallatin (12-3). Kelsey Sofaly tripled and Courtney Moyer singled and drove in one run for Kiski Area (11-7).
The Colonials will play Thomas Jefferson in the semifinals.
Connellsville 4, Franklin Regional 0 — Mia Burd threw a no-hitter with seven strikeouts as No. 5 Connellsville (13-6) defeated No. 4 Franklin Regional (14-6) in a WPIAL Class 5A quarterfinal at Plum. Brooke Miller was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Kylee Hoover also had two hits for the Falcons, who will play No. 1 West Allegheny (18-1) in the semifinals.
Class 6A
Baldwin 4, Mt. Lebanon 1 — No. 2 Baldwin improved to 11-4 with a WPIAL Class 6A quarterfinal win at Upper St. Clair. The Highlanders will play No. 3 Latrobe in the semifinals Wednesday.
Hempfield 3, Canon-McMillan 2 — Maddie Uschock threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts, and Ashley Orischak homered as No. 1 Hempfield (17-3) won a WPIAL Class 6A quarterfinal at Latrobe. The Spartans will play Norwin in the semifinals Wednesday at a time and site to be determined.
Norwin 2, North Allegheny 1 — Alexandra Brentzel's RBI double in the top of the seventh plated the winning run as No. 5 Norwin (11-6) won a WPIAL Class 6A quarterfinal at Fox Chapel. Natalie Krzywiec threw a complete game and scattered seven hits to earn the win.
Class 4A
Elizabeth Forward 4, Beaver 1 — Allie Teagle threw a six-hitter and Kaylee Ludwick and Jordan Pinneri each had doubles as No. 6 Elizabeth Forward (18-3) won a WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinal at West Allegheny. The Warriors will play Yough in the semifinals.
Mt. Pleasant 10, Knoch 0 (5 inn.) — Meadow Uncapher hit a three-run home run, and Carolyn Alincic threw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts as No. 1 Mt. Pleasant (16-0) won a Class 4A quarterfinal at Fox Chapel. Chrsitiana Czegan had a two-run double, and Haylie Brunson had two RBIs for the Vikings. Courtney Poulich was 3 for 3 and Chloe Poulich was 2 for 2 with a triple and RBI.
Class 3A
South Park 17, Ellwood City 9 — Julie Shinavski was 3 for 4 with two doubles and five RBIs to help No. 1 South Park (14-1) to a WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinal win at West Mifflin. Chelsea Carozza knocked in three runs, and Charlyn Blackburn, Kaitlin Morrison and Kaitlyn Pavlick all had two RBIs. Morrison and Pavlick homered for the Eagles, who will play Avonworth in the semifinals.
Southmoreland 6, Steel Valley 5 — Megan Shetterly hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning as No. 3 Southmoreland (8-6) rallied to win a WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinal at Trinity. The Scotties will play No. 2 Freeport in the semifinals.
Class 2A
Chartiers-Houston 7, Serra Catholic 1 — Karlyn Bayer and Jaylese Lombardi homered and had two RBIs to help No. 2 Chartiers-Houston (16-2) win a WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinal at West Allegheny. The Bucs will play Seton LaSalle in the semifinals.
Frazier 9, Neshannock 5 — Emi Curcio was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Kayla Matway was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI for No. 1 Frazier (14-5) in a WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinal win at Trinity.
Laurel 5, Seton LaSalle 3 — No. 6 Laurel (11-3) used a four-run second inning to score a WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinal win at North Allegheny.
Mohawk 9, CWNC 6 — No. 4 Mohawk improved to 14-1 with a WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinal win at North Allegheny. Mohawk will play No. 1 Frazier in the semifinals.
Class A
Monessen 8, Riverview 0 — Monessen pitcher Dana Vatakis came though with a no-hitter with 20 strikeouts as the No. 2-seeded Greyhounds won in the WPIAL Class A quarterfinals at Canon-McMillan. Senior pitcher Carys Kenney-Howell took the loss for Riverview (12-5). Destiny Hebeck doubled and knocked in two runs for Monessen (14-3), which will play No. 3 Leechburg in the semifinals.
Union 10, Bishop Canevin 0 (6 inn.) — Sarah Seamans was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Gianna Trott, Skylar Fisher and Shelby Ligo all had two hits and an RBI as No. 4 Union (16-1) won a WPIAL Class A quarterfinal at Hampton. Union will play West Greene in the semifinals.
West Greene 14, St. Joseph 0 (5 inn.) — McKenna Lampe and Kaitlyn Rizor both homered to lead No. 1 West Greene (17-4) in a Class A quarterfinal victory. Rizor, Madison Renner and Jade Renner each knocked in three runs, while McKenna and Madison Lampe drove in two apiece. Serena Edgar and Anna Swierczewski both doubled for No. 8 St. Joseph (11-5).
