When was the last time someone other than Sewickley Academy won the WPIAL Class AA boys tennis tournament?

Before some of Sewickley's freshmen were born.

Fifteen years, to be exact.

Sewickley Academy, which has won every title since 2004, will seek its 15th consecutive WPIAL championship when the boys team tournament starts this week. The Class AAA bracket debuts Wednesday with Fox Chapel as the two-time defending champion. The Class AA first round is Friday.

The WPIAL brackets were revealed Tuesday.

The two finalists in Class AAA and the top three finishers in Class AA advance to the state tournament. The teams that lose Class AA semifinals will meet in a consolation match for the third PIAA berth.

Sewickley's dominance stretches back to the 1990s.

The WPIAL has crowned 25 WPIAL Class AA boys champions since 1993. Of them, Sewickley Academy won 22. Sewickley was runner-up to rival Quaker Valley in 2002 and 2003. Blackhawk was the 1996 champion.
