PIHL Penguins Cup playoffs roundup: Pine-Richland ousts Hempfield in 1st round

William Studt had two goals to help Pine-Richland earn a 5-1 victory over Hempfield in the first round of the PIHL Class 2A Penguins Cup playoffs Wednesday night at Baierl Ice Complex.
Jack Carnovale, Jared Eggert and Joseph Folmer also scored for the Rams (11-6-3), who will play Quaker Valley in the semifinals next Wednesday at RMU Island Sports Center.
Brendan Garrity had two assists, and Daniel Stauffer made 28 saves in the win.
For Hempfield (11-7-2), Nolen Ferree made 34 saves, and Matthew Traczynski scored on an assist from Dominic Schimizzi.
Quaker Valley 1, Latrobe 0 (OT) — At Nevin Arena, Beau Tomczak's overtime goal at 2:20 sent Quaker Valley (10-10) past Latrobe (13-7) and into the semifinals of the PIHL Class 2A Penguins Cup playoffs. It was the second OT result in as many playoff games for the Quakers.
