Six defending champions are returning to the WPIAL Class AAA wrestling championships this weekend, and five received the inside track to repeat Monday.
Norwin's Kurt Phipps (106 pounds), North Hills' Sam Hillegas (126), Hempfield's Luke Kemerer (152), Albert Gallatin's Tim Wallace (182) and Laurel Highlands' Ian Edenfield (220) earned top seeds for the WPIAL tournament, which takes place Friday and Saturday at Canon-McMillan. All five wrestlers won titles in 2017, while Wallace also won in 2016.
A sixth returning champion, Waynesburg's Caleb Morris, was seeded second at 126 pounds behind Hillegas.
The remaining top seeds include Shaler's Ryan Sullivan (113 pounds), Canon-McMillan's Logan Macri (120), Franklin Regional's Colton Camacho (132), Kiski Area's Noah Levett (138), Penn-Trafford's Job Chishko (145), Belle Vernon's Zach Hartman (160), Waynesburg's Kyle Homet (170), Chartiers Valley's Shamil Zaynullaev (195) and Kiski Area's Isaac Reid (285).
