High school roundup for Feb. 1: Milestone, school record highlight Blackhawk girls’ victory

It was a milestone night for the Blackhawk girls basketball team Thursday.

Mady Aulbach scored 20 points and surpassed 1,000 points for her career as No. 2 Blackhawk defeated Hopewell, 65-46, in a Section 2-4A game.

Blackhawk's Tailyn Siler also set a single-game school record with 21 rebounds as the Cougars improved to 16-1 overall and 9-1 in section play.

North Allegheny 56, Butler 23 — Courtney Roman had 20 points, including six 3-pointers, as No. 1 North Allegheny (18-0, 9-0) won in Section 1-6A.

Pine-Richland 49, North Hills 36 — Taylor Brenner had 16 points to give Pine-Richland (7-11, 4-5) a Section 1-6A win. Lexi Kotwica had 17 points for North Hills (5-13, 1-8).

Seneca Valley 43, Shaler 42 (OT) — McKenna Gross had 11 points and Madelyn Karchut added 10 as Seneca Valley (10-8, 5-4) won in Section 1-6A.

Bethel Park 50, Canon-McMillan 47 — Kamryn Lach hit a 3-pointer with 39 seconds left and added a late free throw, and Madelyn Dziezgowski scored 15 points for No. 3 Bethel Park (13-5, 7-2) in a Section 3-6A win. Tamara Mathis scored 23 points for the Big Macs (10-8, 2-7).

Upper St. Clair 59, Baldwin 47 — Lindsay Meyer had 21 points, including five 3-pointers, as No. 5 Upper St. Clair (9-8, 5-4) won in Section 3-6A.

Chartiers Valley 51, Moon 40 — Megan McConnell had 22 points and Mackenzie Wagner added 18 to guide Chartiers Valley (13-6, 7-2) to a Section 1-5A win.

Montour 55, Lincoln Park 48 — Courtney Tomas had 30 points as Montour (8-12, 3-6) won in Section 1-5A.

Gateway 37, Oakland Catholic 35 — Jordan Edwards had 15 points for No. 5 Gateway (17-3, 7-2) in a Section 2-5A victory over No. 4 Oakland Catholic (11-7, 6-3).

Woodland Hills 59, McKeesport 51 — Ciara Turner had 25 points for Woodland Hills (9-10, 3-6) en route to a Section 2-5A win. Jhayla Bray had 30 points for McKeesport (4-15, 1-8).

Connellsville 58, Greensburg Salem 44 — Megan Kallock had 33 points in a losing effort for Greensburg Salem (6-13, 3-8) in Section 3-5A. Nikki Mellinger had 10 points for the Golden Lions. Sara Aumer scored 16 points for Connellsville (9-10, 6-4).

Ringgold 61, Laurel Highlands 40 — Taylor Costa scored 21 points as Ringgold (14-5, 9-1) won in Section 3-5A.

Kiski Area 61, Franklin Regional 59 — Harley Holloway scored 31 points to lift Kiski Area (7-13, 3-8) to a win in Section 4-5A. Courtney Giles and Isabelle Palamone each had 13 points for Franklin Regional (8-11, 3-7).

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 78, Highlands 33 — Tess Myers scored a game-high 22 points as No. 1 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic cruised past Highlands in Section 1-4A. Kylee Lewandowski added 15 points for North Catholic (17-1, 11-0). Renee Cebula scored 16 points for Highlands (2-14, 2-8).

Knoch 66, Valley 15 — Emily Fraser scored 20 points as Knoch (9-10, 7-3) raced to a 34-6 halftime lead and didn't look back in Section 1-4A. Auveonna Perkins led Valley (2-16, 0-10) with eight points.

Beaver 52, New Castle 38 — Bella Posset had 22 points for No. 4 Beaver (14-5, 8-2) in a Section 2-4A win.

Central Valley 70, Quaker Valley 40 — Christiane Frye scored 26 points to lead Central Valley (14-2, 8-2) to a Section 2-4A win.

East Allegheny 57, Charleroi 37 — Amani Johnson scored 23 points as No. 3 East Allegheny (19-0, 10-0) won a Section 2-3A game. The Wildcats pulled away with a 13-5 third-quarter run.

Belle Vernon 41, Mt. Pleasant 27 — Led by Lindsay Steeber's 11 points, Belle Vernon (16-4, 11-1) earned a Section 3-4A victory. Chloe Jaworski had 10 points for Mt. Pleasant (5-13, 3-9), which was outscored 25-9 in the second half after leading 18-16 at halftime.

Belle Vernon has won eight straight games.

Southmoreland 52, Derry 26 — Maggie Moore had 16 points and Charity Henderson added 13 to give Southmoreland (12-8, 5-7) a Section 3-4A win. Renee Rectenwald had 11 points for Derry (1-17, 1-11).

South Park 69, Yough 19 — Maura Huwalt had 18 points as South Park (11-8, 8-4) won in Section 3-4A. Hattie Boucher had seven points for Yough (0-19, 0-12), which fell behind 30-3.

Avonworth 57, Carlynton 38 — Hayden Robinson scored 20 points to give Avonworth (13-7, 6-4) a Section 3-3A victory. The win clinched a 27th straight trip to the WPIAL playoffs for the Antelopes.

Seton LaSalle 44, Shady Side Academy 42 — Layni Ziegler had 24 points, including a three-point play with 10 seconds left, to lead Seton LaSalle (9-11, 6-5) to a Section 3-3A win. Arianna Goitz scored 26 points for Shady Side Academy (10-8, 4-6).

Steel Valley 57, Apollo-Ridge 52 — The Vikings held a 42-28 lead after three quarters before Steel Valley came back to pull out a Section 3-3A win. Megan Ost led Apollo-Ridge (10-8, 6-5) with 18 points. Morgan Farrah led Steel Valley (5-14, 3-7) with a game-high 20 points.

Chartiers-Houston 71, Shenango 23 — Alexa Williamson had 41 points and 11 rebounds and became the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,931 points, as No. 3 Chartiers-Houston (14-5, 11-1) won in Section 1-2A.

Williamson surpassed Emily Briggs (1,915) on the all-time list.

Brentwood 64, Riverview 45 — The Raiders led by one at halftime but went cold in the second half, falling to No. 5 Brentwood in Section 2-2A. Sydney McDonough led Riverview (9-9, 5-7) with 19 points, Lio Francesca added 15 and Alyssa Cappa 11. Anna Betz and Morgan Dryburgh led Brentwood (15-4, 10-2) with 15 points apiece.

Leechburg 46, Sto-Rox 41 — Mikayla Lovelace had 18 points and 12 rebounds as No. 4 Leechburg held off Sto-Rox in Section 2-2A. Makenzie Fello chipped in 13 points for Leechburg (15-3, 10-2). Lexi Frazee scored 12 points for Sto-Rox (9-9, 3-9).

Frazier 77, Jeannette 33 — Brooke Poling had 25 points, and Jovanna Isaac added 22 as Frazier (12-7, 8-4) won in Section 3-2A. Dymond Crawford scored eight points for Jeannette (6-13, 4-8).

Greensburg Central Catholic 57, Bentworth 20 — Melina Maietta had 13 points, and Anna Eisaman added 10 as Greensburg Central Catholic (10-7, 9-3) won a Section 3-2A game. The Centurions, who have won eight of their past nine games, opened a 36-10 lead at halftime.

Latrobe 62, Hollidaysburg 50 — Laura Graytok scored 28 points, and Mackenzie Markle added 13 as Latrobe (15-4) won a nonsection contest.

Quigley Catholic 46, Cornell 43 — Patience Gipson scored 12 points for No. 3 Quigley Catholic (12-7, 9-0), which claimed the Section 1-A title. It's the 11th section title in 12 seasons for Quigley Catholic.

Sewickley Academy 57, Propel Andrew Street 18 — Olivia Ryder scored 27 points as No. 4 Sewickley Academy (12-3, 7-2) won in Section 1-A. The Panthers opened a 24-0 lead.

Avella 43, Jefferson-Morgan 32 — Bailey Lis had 22 points to lift Avella (11-7, 6-3) to a Section 2-A win.

West Greene 75, Geibel 12 — Madison Lampe had 16 points and surpassed 1,000 for her career as No. 2 West Greene (17-1, 9-0) won in Section 2-A.

Eden Christian Academy 64, Clairton 50 — Taylor Haring had 31 points and Haylee Fleischman added 17 as Eden Christian Academy (7-11, 4-5) won a Section 3-A game.

St. Joseph 62, Imani Christian 18 — The Spartans led 35-6 at halftime and ran away from Section 3-A foe Imani Christian (3-17, 0-9). Chloe Kurpakus led the way with a game-high 27 points, and Alex Jones added 20 for St. Joseph (12-8, 6-3).

Winchester Thurston 46, Aquinas Academy 22 — Gia Thorpe had 27 points and Ayanna Townsend added 10 as No. 1 Winchester Thurston (12-4, 9-0) won a Section 3-A game.

Boys basketball

Albert Gallatin 60, Laurel Highlands 56 — In Section 1-5A, Colby Uphold had 19 points to lead Albert Gallatin (12-6, 7-3) to victory. Bryce Laskey had 26 points for Laurel Highlands (10-8, 5-4).

Greensburg Central Catholic 49, Riverview 40 — Ryan Bisignani had 17 points as Greensburg Central Catholic (4-14, 4-6) won a Section 1-2A game. The Centurions held a 30-24 advantage in the second half.

Noah Black led Riverview (2-15, 0-8) with 13 points.

Freeport 66, Kiski Area 63 (OT) — Ben Beale scored 18 points and sank the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime to seal the win for Freeport (12-5) in nonsection play. Isiah Bauman scored 33 points, including eight of Freeport's 11 points in overtime, and added 10 rebounds. Nick Smith scored 12 points for Kiski Area and hit a tying 3 as time expired in regulation. Jack Colecchi also scored 12 points for the Cavaliers (1-18).

Ligonier Valley 89, Marion Center 69 — Marrek Paola had 22 points and 17 rebounds to lead five players in double figures as Ligonier Valley won a District 6 Heritage Conference game.

Michael Marinchak (17 points), Jaxson Ludwig (16), Jackson Daugherty (12) and Andrew Pleskovich (11) also paced the Rams (15-4, 12-0), who have clinched the top seed in the Southern Division. They will play West Shamokin on Monday in the conference semifinals.
