Logan Mannheimer

School: South Park

Class: Senior

Sport: Soccer

Claim to fame: Mannheimer scored in double overtime to give the Eagles a 1-0 win over Elizabeth Forward last Thursday after tallying four assists in a win on Monday. South Park is 9-0 and 6-0 in Section 1-AA at the halfway point in the regular season. Mannheimer also is a standout on the boys tennis team.

How were you able to score the game-winning goal?

I just saw the ball come in wide from Luke (Erdner). He picked it up on the side, and I thought that one of our players, Nathan Kacey, was going to get a head on it in the middle and it just got over his head and I brought it down and I was right in front of the goal.

Your team played five games in six days last week. How were you able to manage that?

Definitely by the end of the last game you were feeling it. I think definitely what helped was the depth on our team. We played a lot of second-string players against Steel Valley. … I think that really helped us recover.

You've come just short of advancing to the WPIAL title game the last two years. What will it take to get back this season after winning in 2014?

I think it's going to take a team effort. We have a lot of talent on our team, so I think we definitely have the skill to do it; we just have to put it together.

What's your favorite class?

Probably AP economy, because it's something new I've never taken before, and it's something I'm pretty interested in.

Lia Manning

School: Thomas Jefferson

Class: Senior

Sport: Soccer

Claim to fame: Manning netted a hat trick while also adding an assist in a win over Obama Academy last Wednesday. Thomas Jefferson is 8-1 overall and 6-1 in Section 3-AAA.

What led to your success last Wednesday?

I think it was basically with my teammates help. I couldn't do it without all my teammates, and I just thought we had a good game, we played hard and we proved that we could win.

Your team is off to its best start in almost a decade. What's been the difference?

I think we're just working really hard, and we are putting so much time this year into everything, practicing almost every day.

What will it take for your team to maintain momentum and achieve your goals this season?

Everything we have. It's going to take all of us, not just the starters.

How would you describe your playing style on the field?

I think I'm more of a team player. I like to help my team get goals more than I like to get them myself.

What's your favorite class?

I like gym class. I just like to be active, and I like to play every sport.
