Pine-Richland boys golf rides hard work to 7-0 start

After graduating one senior off of last year's roster, the Pine-Richland boys team entered this season with a group of talented, experienced golfers.

The Rams parlayed the overall skill and veteran knowledge into a 7-0 start, with six of the program's victories coming in Section 3-AAA.

According to coach Jeff Seybert, the team's hot start is no accident but a byproduct of preparation and hard work.

“The guys are playing really well right now. They played together all summer, and we go down to the bubble at RMU to hit all winter long,” Seybert said.

“We don't have too many long hitters, but our kids can make good second shots and we work hard on putting. We take a lot of time practicing putting. We have a handful of different drills the boys do, and they've picked up things on their own time, too.”

Seybert said everyone on his roster has contributed to Pine-Richland's success, but the group's leader has been Jack Kremer, the captain and lone senior on the team.

“He's a great senior leader. Even last year, he stepped up because he was the only junior and he helped our senior lead the team as well. The young guys look up to him because he's the first on there, he works hard and he puts the time in,” Seybert said.

“He tries to make sure everyone is on the right path, and he says the right things. He's always positive.”

In addition to Kremer's leadership and strong play, the Rams have received reliably low scores from junior Rico Sciulli and sophomore Donny Professori. Jack Anderson, another junior, also has performed well.

Jack Wymard, Nick Casario and Cade Zolkos have helped shore up the scores of a unit that, according to their coach, has been able to achieve success without depending too much on the contributions of just one or two golfers.

“We have a good core group of seven or eight guys that really put in the time. They love the game, and they really work hard for each other,” coach Seybert said.

“They pick each other up when someone else has a bad round. It's a great group that can deal with the ups and downs of golf as a team.”
