WPIAL Saturdays Scholastic Starz – Week Four

In football, when an official puts a fist in the air, it means fourth down. So we here at MSA Sports, powered by TribLive.com stand with our first in the air. No, not in some sort of protest, but to salute the stand out players in the handful of WPIAL football games on Saturday that helped put Week 4 of the 2017 campaign in punt formation.

Hollis Mathis – Penn Hills

Saturday was a ‘Homecoming’ for former Shaler and current Penn Hills football coach Jon LeDonne. The event was so big, the Shaler community decided to throw a parade for the returning coach. Well, not exactly, but PH quarterback Hollis Mathis rained on the homecoming parade of the hosts by hitting on 19 of 27 passes for 309 yards and five touchdowns, four of which went to Daequan Hardy as the Indians rolled past the Titans in a Class 6-A Northern Seven Conference matinee 34-6.

Brodie List – Beaver

The 2016 meeting between Beaver and Keystone Oaks in a Class 3-A Non-Conference contest was one of the best regular season games of the season thanks to then Beaver quarterback Darius Wise who threw and rushed for over 100 yards each. It wasn’t as jaw dropping, but this years signal caller Brodie List made his namesake by throwing for 154 yards and three first quarter touchdowns as the Bobcats handed the visiting Golden Eagles their first loss of the season to the tune of 44-12.

Robert Kennedy – Jeannette

There was a lot of nastiness Saturday afternoon at historic Graham Field in Wilkinsburg in the much anticipated Class 1-A Eastern Conference battle between Jeannette and host Imani Christian. But while things got ugly in the stands and on the field leading to officials ending the game early, Robert Kennedy’s play was a thing of beauty as he ran for two touchdowns, threw for 183 yards and a score, returned an interception 35 yards for a pick-six and brought a punt back 56-yards to the house as the Jayhawks remained perfect with a 54-36 conquest of the Saints.

Raven Chandler and Louie Hapach – Western Beaver

With leading passes…and leading rusher Jeddy Young banged up early in this Class 1-A Big 7 Conference battle with undefeated Union. coach Matt Gray turned to not one, but two runners to carry the load. Senior Louie Hapach alternated between quarterback and running back and gained 110 yards on the ground with a 13-yard touchdown while junior Raven Chandler gained 113 yards as the Golden Beavers rolled past the banged up Scotties 30-6.
