Morgan Ryan finished off a great career as a Hempfield pitcher this season. Bailey Parshall still has one year left as a pitcher at Belle Vernon, but already has had a great career.
The two were so good this season – and in their careers – that the MSA Sports staff found it impossible to pick one over the other as Player of the Year. So there is a double take on Player of the Year this year.
Ryan and Parshall have been selected co-Players of the Year and lead the MSA Diamond Dolls softball all-star team. The Diamond Dolls are the top 12 players in the WPIAL, regardless of position, and they are picked by the MSA staff.
Here are thumbnail sketches of the players of the year and the rest of the Diamond Dolls team.
CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR:
MORGAN RYAN
Hempfield, P, Sr.
This season, Hempfield became the first WPIAL team to win back-to-back state titles. The Spartans also became only the third from the WPIAL to finish a season undefeated. Ryan was the driving force in the Spartans’ success. As a pitcher, she was 22-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 99 strikeouts. But she also was a force at the plate. Ryan hit .462 with a school record 37 RBIs. She had nine doubles and five home runs.
Ryan put up some impressive career numbers. She was 73-6 as a pitcher with 584 strikeouts in 511 innings. She also had a school record 16 career home runs and also a school record 100 RBIs.
Ryan will play next season at Notre Dame.
CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR:

Parshall’s career statistics are tremendous. She has a 56-9 record with a 0.94 ERA and has struck out 673 in 430 innings pitched. As a hitter, she has a .470 career average.
Parshall made a verbal commitment to Penn State before she started her freshman year.
SKYLA GRECO

For Ellwood City, the sky was the limit with Skyla pitching. She led Ellwood City to two consecutive WPIAL titles (2A last year and 3A this year). This year, she was 19-1 with 156 strikeouts in 114 innings. She had an ERA of 1.10. For her career, she was 60-12 with 575 strikeouts. Will play next season at Seton Hill.
ANNALIA PAOLI
Albert Gallatin, SS, Sr.
Paoli was a freshman phenom this season. Paoli had a smashing debut, smacking a WPIAL high 13 home runs. She also had 47 RBIs and led Albert Gallatin to its first playoff appearance in 20 years. She finished with a .506 average, seven doubles and one triple and her slugging percentage was 1.045.
ASHLEY SEAMON
West Allegheny, P, Jr.
Seamon wasn’t a dominating pitcher with strikeouts, but she was the central figure in the Indians winning the WPIAL Class 5A championship this season. Seamon is an outstanding athlete and won two WPIAL titles this year. She was a starter on West Allegheny’s volleyball team that won a championship. And she was the leading scorer on Indians’ girls basketball team.
KATLYN PAVLIK
South Park, 3B, Jr.
A three-year starter who helped the Eagles soar to a PIAA championship this year. Pavlik had a .614 batting average and struck out only once in 83 at bats. She was a perfect 25 of 25 in stolen base attempts. She had eight doubles, 10 home runs, 42 runs scored and 45 RBIs. She already has committed to Pitt.
OLIVIA PORTER
Southmoreland, SS, Sr.
Porter was the primary reason in Southmoreland’s drive to the WPIAL semifinals. She had a .463 batting average with 10 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 19 RBIs. She also scored 27 runs and stole nine bases.
LOGAN HARTMAN
Frazier, P, Fr.
Hartman burst on the scene this year as a ninth-grader and helped the Commodores to the WPIAL Class 2A championship. She was instrumental in the team’s success as both a pitcher and hitter. She had a 12-1 pitching record with 98 strikeouts and only 13 walks. She had a .394 batting average with 14 RBIs.
MADISON RENNER

Renner finished with a .500 average with 12 home runs and a slugging percentage of 1.011. She also did a little pitching and finished with a 6-0 record and a 1.14 ERA, with 38 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings.
MADISON LAMPE
West Greene, 3B, Soph.
West Greene is the only team with two players on the Diamond Dolls team. Lampe made a big impact last year as a freshman and continued to be a force this season. She hit .567 with 14 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs and 52 RBIs. Her slugging percentage was 1.144.
KACI ALDERSON
Chartiers-Houston, SS, Fr.
Alderson is one of two freshmen on the Diamond Studs team. The daughter of Char-Houston coach Tricia Alderson, Kaci had a whopping .560 batting average with ten doubles, two triples, five home runs and 37 RBIs. She also scored 32 runs and struck out only eight times all year. She had a slugging percentage of .947.
DANA VATAKIS
Monessen, P, Jr.
Monessen made it to a WPIAL title game this year for the first time in school history and Vatakis was the chief reason. She was a standout pitcher, going 16-7 with 211 strikeouts. But she also batted .533.
