North Hills Beats Char Valley Again for WPIAL Girls Lacrosse D-II Crown

For the second consecutive season, the North Hills Indians and the Chartiers Valley Colts met for the Division II WPIAL Girls Lacrosse Championship. And for the second straight year the Indians came away with the gold medal winning an 11-10 thriller at Martorelli Stadium.

It didn't take long for the Colts to get on the scoreboard, as Hope Tornabene converted a Katie Wiess feed into the games first goal just at :27. The back and forth would ensue as the Indians netted the next three goals.

Emily Jamison tied the game at 1-1 just :25 later. Jamison tallied again at (3:09) and then Natalie DiPaolo beat CV goalie Shelby Teagardner at (3:41) and North Hills led 3-1.

Back came Chartiers Valley led by there talented Brooke Czarnecki. The sneior scored after a foul (7:29) and then converted a Paige Onomastico feed past Izzy Wingerd to make the score 3-3. Jamison would score twice more late in the half and the Colts Talia Cruz took a great outlet pass from Tornabene and found the net with just :35 remaining before halftime.

The Colts tied the game a 5-5 early in the second half and again it was Tornabene scoring, this time at just :24. Czarnecki completed her hat trick after another Indians foul, and CV took a 6-5 lead just under 3 and 1/2 minutes into the half.

DiPaolo answered for North Hills off an assist from Angela Kryl. Kara Scherling , who had two first half assists, picked up her first goal at (11:26) and the Indians had a 7-6 lead.

The Colts comeback was next, as Chartiers Valley scored the next three markers to take a 9-7 lead. Czarnecki notched her fourth goal, this one again coming after a foul at (14:06). Cruz scored at (17:15) and Tornabene picked up her third goal just :46 later for the two-goal lead.

Back came the Indians. Scherling scored her second goal of the game :38 after the Tornabene hat trick and after a Colts found, Jamison tallied her fifth of the contest to make the score 9-9. Senior midfielder Taylor Ondik answered for CV, taking a pass from Erica Wilkerson and beating senior goalie Allsion Tatton inside the far post.

Tatton replaced the junior Wingerd, a move that North Hills head coach Rachel Hoza made in every game for the Indians this season. Ondik's goal came at the (19:29) mark and the lead lasted until two minutes were left.

Who else for North Hills but the senior center Emily Jamison for the late game heroics? Jamison scored her sixth goal of the game off a Scherling assist at (23:00) and with just (1:01) left on the clock, Jamison capped the late second half comeback and her great high school career with goal number 7 and an 11-10 lead for the Indians. North Hills would keep possession for most of the final 61 seconds and take home their second consecutive Division II gold
medal.

The seven goals for Jamison pushed her season total to 99 for the season. DiPaolo, who missed 10 games during the regular season with a hamstring injury, ended her senior season with 55 goals. The win for North Hills marked the second straight season that the Indians finished undefeated. North Hills has now won 40 consecutive games to go along with the (20-0) season record. 

Chartiers Valley, which had won 18 straight since a season opening loss to Bethel Park, ends the campaign at (18-2). There are no PIAA state playoff provision for the WPIAL Division II lacrosse teams.
