Anna Lauterbach pitched seven innings of three-hit softball, earned the win and retired the last nine batters of the game in order as baldwin beat Bethel Park Tuesday evening.
Her circle work alone would be a nice night on the diamond for Laurerbach, but that doesn’t even include what she did at the plate. Baldwin (12-5, 7-3) got a solo home run from Lauterbach, the only run they would need in a AAAA Section 4 win over Bethel Park (7-9, 4-6) Tuesday night, by a count of 2-0.
Lauterbach, who is also a starter on the girls basketball team and a softball recruit at St. Joseph’s University, would also hit a double in the game.
Erica Young would score the other run for Baldwin, advancing to the plate on an error.
All five of the Baldwin seniors reached base on a night that they were honored for their achievements in front of a nice crowd at Baldwin Stadium.
The win is more than just a moral victory, as the Highlanders will be heading to the WPIAL AAAA Playoffs in search of their 11th WPIAL Championship in school history.
They will finish either tied for second or in third in Section 4, which has 3 teams in the MSA Sports Top 10. Bethel Park has their section year end with their third straight miss of the WPIAL Playoffs.
