Quaker Valley Three-Peats With Rout of Thomas Jefferson 8-2

In the PIHL Penguins Cup Semifinals, Quaker Valley pulled off a dramatic come from behind victory by scoring two goals in the final half minute of regulation in a victory over  the Freeport Yellowjackets. The Quakers came back again Monday afternoon, except there were no dramatics needed in a 8-2 victory over Thomas Jefferson at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

The win gives Quaker Valley a third straight Penguins Cup title and their fifth championship over.

Thomas Jefferson scored first when off a clean face off win, Tommy Kimmick cranked a shot from the point that beat QV goaltender Parker Sherry for their lone lead of the game.

Once the Quakers got rolling, they were impossible to stop, specifically Connor Quinn. The sophomore son of head coach Kevin Quinn scored the tying goal on a breakaway at 4:55 of the first period. Quinn then put the Quakers ahead to stay with a sharp-shooters special on a snap shot from the bottom of the right face off circle, going over the left Shoulder short side of Jaguars netminder Philip Ripepi. The power play goal made it 2-1 QV.

33 seconds later, Scott Weston outraced a TJ defender to the puck, came in alone from the blue line and beat Ripepi five-hole as Quaker Valley took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

The Connor Quinn show continued big time in the second period when he scored three more goals. His third and fourth game were similar in that he was parked to the side of the net on Repepi’s left, driving home rebounds with assists from James Perkins and older brother, senior Alexander Quinn. The two goals came in the first five minutes of the period and put the Quakers comfortably up 5-1.

Quinn’s fifth and final goal was a thing of beauty late in the second when coming down the slot, he re-directed a pass from Perkins past Ripepi to make it 6-1.

Brendan Mason scored the final goal for the Jaguars six and a half minutes into the third period, but the Quakers iced it with two late goals, one by Perkins and one by Adam Stanley who roofed a shot after a nice set up by Hannah Blizzard.

When all was seaid and done, Connor Quinn had five goals and an assist, James Perkins finished with a goal and four assists and Alexander Quinn added three assists. Connor Quinn has 7 postseason goals and 40 for the season.

Thomas Jefferson’s break out season ends with their fourth loss of the season to the top-seed Quakers. The Jaguars finish with a 17-6-2 record.

Quaker Valley improves to 24-1-0 and will try to win their third Pennsylvania Cup Class A state championship on Saturday when the Quakers face Flyers Cup Class A champion West Chester Bayard Rustin at Penn State University on Saturday at 11:00am.
