Woodland Hills Aims and Claims Team Rifle Gold

Woodland Hills High School claimed their second district rifle championship in the last three years by registering a perfect score of 800 Tuesday afternoon in the 2014 WPIAL Team Rifle finals at the Dormont-Mt.Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club in Canonsburg.

The Wolverines had three of their shooters register perfect scores of 100 with 10 bulls-eyes in Becca DeVito, Seamus McGuigan and Laura Valenti. The team score of 800 (74x) was the highest score in the WPIAL Team Championship history, breaking the mark set by Woodland Hills of 800 (65x) in 2012.

Defending champion Hempfield finished in second place with a score of 799 (64x). Bethel Park was third with 797 (60x). The fourth through six place finishers were McGuffey (797-55x), Avella (797-50x) and Butler (795-53x).

The championship is the fourth in school history with the Wolverines claiming rifle gold in 1992, 1998 and in 2012.

The 2014 WPIAL Individual Rifle Championships will also take place at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club in Canonsburg on Thursday.
