Blackhawk Cougars Hockey – Senior Salute

Once again this season, MSA Sports is your home for Blackhawk High School hockey. Here is an up close and personal look at the seniors on this 2013-2014 Cougars hockey team.
KYLE DOUGLAS SCHAEFER
#66 Captain
Kyle is the son of Doug and Donna Schaefer and a brother to Owen, Abby & Eli
Kyle began skating at 2yrs. of age and began hockey start at 4yrs. old. Kyle has been playing for the Beaver County Badgers for 14yrs. and Blackhawk Hockey for 7yrs.
Kyle has earned his varsity letter in Hockey, Golf and Track for Blackhawk and is a member of the National Honor Society & Key Club. Kyle is the captain of the Blackhawk hockey team and was chosen last year as a forward on the PIHL All-Star team.
Kyle volunteers to help with the Blackhawk Developmental team. He is a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and also enjoys tennis & skiing.
Kyle will be attending college in the fall and hopes to duel major in Entrepreneurship and Finance.
Kyle’s message to his parents:
Thank you for supporting me and being my biggest fans throughout my hockey career. I love you both and can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me.
JACOB HOPPER
#12 Left Winger- Assistant Captain
Jacob is the son of Lori and Jeff Hopper
Jacob began skating when he was 10 years old, and joined the Hess Developmental program at the age of 11. He started playing for the Beaver County Badgers Bantam division at age 12 and has played for them ever since, finishing his final Midget year as a Badger.
Jacob joined the Blackhawk Varsity team when he was a sophomore. He is an assistant captain for the Cougars, and plays wing as well as center.
Jacob attends Mohawk High School, where he plays golf for the Mohawk Warriors.
After high school, Jacob plans to attend Youngstown State University to study Mechanical Engineering.
CAMERON HOUK
#53 Defenseman- Assistant Captain
Cameron is the son of Rob and Sue Houk of Chippewa Township.
Cameron began skating with the Hockey Start Program and has been playing for the Beaver County Badgers for 12 years and has played Blackhawk Hockey for 6 years.
Cameron is the Assistant Captain and a 3 year letter winner in Hockey, Co-Captain and a two year letter winner in Football and a 2 year Track letter winner. In addition, Cameron is the Secretary of the National Honor Society, the senior class Treasurer and a member of the Key and Football Clubs.
Upon graduation, Cameron plans to participate in ROTC while attending college with a major in Engineering.
Cameron’s message to his parents:
Thank you so much for always pushing me to do my best and spending the time and money on twelve hears of hockey. I love you and hope you can stay busy without any long car trips, meetings, and tournaments!
NATHAN ROGER LUNDY
#5 Right Wing- Assistant Captain
Nate is the son of Rich and Amanda Lundy
He began skating at the age of 5 when he attended “Hockey Start” at the Kirk S. Nevin Ice Rink. Nate has played for 6 different organizations. These organizations include the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions, Derry Trojans, Ambridge Bridgers, Beaver County Badgers, Quigley Spartans, and the Blackhawk Cougars. Nate currently plays for the Beaver County Badgers and the Blackhawk Cougars. He is an assistant captain for both his Badger team and Cougar team.
Nate was part of an Open Cup Championship team when playing for the Quigley Spartans. He has been playing hockey at the Midget level for the past 4 years and has won 5 tournaments with his fellow Badger teammates.
After high school, Nate plans to attend Cal U for Criminology in hopes of one day being a state trooper or going into the FBI.
Nate’s message to his dad and Amanda:
Thank you guys so much for all of the time, money you have put into me over the past 4 years. I hope to grow up to be the great young many have always raised me to be~ I love you guys and everything you have done for me!
ANDREW PETERS
#18 Right Winger
Andrew is the son of Dennis and Dianne Peters
Andrew began playing hockey in his freshman year and has played all four years in high school. In his sophomore year, he was the recipient of the Badger Bob Johnson Award.
Andrew attends New Brighton High School where he is a member of the Leadership Club.
After graduation he plans to attend Slippery Rock University to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
Andrew has really enjoyed playing hockey for Blackhawk and is appreciative for the opportunity and experience.
Andrew’s message to his parents:
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to play hockey with Blackhawk throughout my high school years. You have supported me in many ways and I really appreciate you always being there for me.
RICKY SCANLON
#9 Left Wing
Ricky is the son of Rick and Ellie Scanlon
He played hockey for the first time with the Hockey Start program. After 2 years he decided to play other sports but has always liked hockey. This is his first season playing for the Blackhawk Hockey team. He has given 100% and has made the most of his time by participating in practices and playing in both JV and Varsity games.
Ricky is a member of the High School football club and has played on the Blackhawk Cougar football team for 4 years.
After graduation, Ricky is going to attend Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA to major in Deisel Technology.
Ricky’s message to his parents:
Thank you mom and dad for all you have done for me, from taking me to practice and coming to watch all my games.
KRISTIAN STEINAR SKOGSHOLM
#26 Defenseman
Kristian is the son of Jarl Skogsholm and Susan Chute.
Kristian began skating with the Hockey Start Program and played for the Beaver County Badgers for 2 years. He currently plays for both the Blackhawk Varsity Team as well as the Beaver County Badgers Midget U18 team.
Kristian attends Freedom High School where he is on the honor roll, a member of the Varsity Golf Team where he was a WPIAL qualifier, is Treasurer of the National Honor Society, as well as a member of the ski club.
Upon graduation, Kristian plans to attend college and then continue on to medical school.
Kristian’s message to his parents:
Thank you for supporting me all these years, getting up early, driving in the snow and losing so much sleep along the way.
