Blackhawk Cougars Hockey Game Recap for 11/5/13

At the Beaver County Ice Arena on Tuesday November 5th in a special Hometown Broadcast the Beaver Bobcats score 3 goals within :37 seconds late in the third period to defeat the Blackhawk Cougars by an 8-6 score.
Blackhawk down four players due to injury or sickness skated only 11 players plus a goalie in this battle of neighboring school districts. The Bobcats used 14 skaters and a goalie and this would prove to be an advantage late in the game. Both teams entered the game with 0-2 records and were looking for their first win.
Blackhawk score first on a goal by Ken Rose at 4:42 of the first period to make it 1-0 but the Cougars were outplayed in the first 4:00 minutes of period one. Cougar goalie Cory Steinle stood on his head stopping 6 shots in the early going to keep his team in the game. At 5:45 of the first Jordan McConaughy would put Blackhawk up 2-0. Beaver would score on a goal by Luke Cahil at 9:04 to make it 2-1. Finally Grant Rombold would make it 3-1 Cougars with a goal at 13:41. This period was a back and forth affair dominated by skating and end to end rushes.
A bit more defense was played in period two as only three goals were scored, but they would all be Bobcat tallies as they would score three unanswered to take a 4-3 lead. Donnie Morgan would open the scoring at :58 to cut the Cougar lead to 3-2. Antoni Chirgot scored two straight one at 1;59, the other at 2:32. Beaver that quickly with skating and a few Blackhawk defensive mistakes led by scoring three goals in 1:32.
Into the third period and just :10 seconds in Rose scored his second to tie it at 4-4. This would start a wild third period. If you like end to end action, lots of scoring chances, and good goaltending you would have loved this game. Back and forth they would go as at 2:15 Rombold would score his second of the game at 2:15, a great individual effort to go up 5-4. Dan Molloy would give Beaver a 5-5 lead at 6:10. No one would score for 5 minutes but both teams had chances. Finally Rombold would get the hat trick at 11:10, his third of the game a tremendous play as he weaved thru 2 defense man to give the Cougars a 6-5 lead. That goal was the Mount Lebanon Ice Arena play of the game and all the Cougars had to do was hold on for their first win of the year. But it was not to be as the Bobcats would get three goals within :37 seconds starting at 12:24 with a second goal by Morgan to tie it at 6-6. Anthony Begley would tally :27 seconds later to make it 7-6. Finally Chirgott would get his third, the hat trick to make it 8-6 Beaver.
The Cougars fall to 0-3 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 1-2. Beaver had 32 shots on goal and Blackhawk had 28. The MSA three stars were as follows:
