Elizabeth Forward (7-1, 4-1) was able to scrap out enough runs and pitch well enough to defeat Thomas Jefferson 3-1 on Tuesday at William Penn Fields in Elizabeth.

The Warriors were paced by leadoff hitter Jen Keefer, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, a run scored and 3 stolen bases.

EF jumped out to an early lead, as Keefer would single, steal 2nd and 3rd base and eventually score on a Katie Shinavski RBI single.

The 1-0 score would hold up until the 5th inning, when EF’s Courtney Hrabosky would reach on an error, steal second and score on the RBI double by Keefer. After Keefer stole third, EF would extend their lead to 3-0 on an RBI sacrifice fly to right field by Caitlyn Arico.

Thomas Jefferson (1-4, 1-4) would respond in the top of the 6th, as Rachel Bowers would double and score on an RBI single by Kyla Prickett. Prickett finished 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Jaguars.

Taylor Dubs pitched all 6 innings for Thomas Jefferson, allowing just 5 hits and only 2 earned runs, while striking out 3 batters and walking none.

The Warriors were led by pitching ace Portia McBride, who threw all 7 innings, allowing 8 hits and one run, while registering 7 strikeouts and no walks.

Elizabeth Forward, who will next play at Belle Vernon on Thursday, amazingly overcame futility from the bottom of their lineup. The bottom 6 hitters in their order went a combined 0-for-13 and only reached base twice (fielders choice and error). The top three hitters of Keefer, Shinavski and Arico, however, would finish 5-for-7 with 3 RBI.

Thomas Jefferson will next play at South Allegheny on Wednesday. Elizabeth Forward and Thomas Jefferson will meet again on April 30 at 3:30pm.
