North Allegheny (16-3) also advanced to the state team tournament with a surprisingly easy 44-20 win over Kiski Area (16-3) in the Class AAA third place match Saturday afternoon at Chartiers Valley High School. Falls by Clay Byerly (170) and Alex DeCiantis (182) and a decision win by Zach Smith (195) blew open an 11-11 tie after the squads had split the first six bouts. Falls by Scotty Stossel (106) and Connor D’Amoto (113) sealed the win for the Tigers. North Allegheny advances to the state team playoffs for the second straight season. The Tigers will battle the Pittsburgh City League champion, Allderdice, on Monday night at a site and time to be determined. The Tigers will be heavily favored to win that match and face undefeated powerhouse Central Dauphin (21-0), the District 3 champion, in the first round of the state team playoffs at the GIANT Center on Thursday.
NOTE: Kiski Area senior Matt McCutcheon, a defending state champion and a Penn State recruit, recorded his 150th career victory with a win at 220 pounds.
