MSA SPORTS CUP RESULTS – SF Three-peats in Triple-A

In the first ten years of the MSA Sports Cup, while there were a couple of dominating schools in the other three classifications, the chase for the Class AAA Cup had been up for grabs with eight different schools earning The Cup. However in the last three years of the season long competition, Triple-A has become the pride of the Lions.

After finishing as the runner-up in 2012-2013, South Fayette has staked its claim on top in Class AAA as the Lions are the first school in this classification to win a third consecutive MSA Sports Cup.

In the closest 2015-2016 race, South Fayette scored 435 points, beating out two-time champion Mars by only 30 points. 50 points behind the Fighting Planets in third place is South Park, followed by Franklin Regional and Indiana. Rounding out the Top 10 in AAA is Thomas Jefferson, Belle Vernon, West Allegheny, Chartiers Valley and a four-way tie for 10th between Ambridge, Blackhawk, Montour and Mount Pleasant.

After winning back-to-back WPIAL and PIAA football titles that led South Fayette High School to Cup titles in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015, the Lions had to settle for conference championship and district runner-up points this past year on the gridiron, but the green machine did win WPIAL crowns in boys soccer in the fall and girls basketball this past winter.

The MSA Sports Cup is a challenge to determine the best sports programs for the entire school year throughout the WPIAL schools in each classification, A, AA,  AAA and AAAA.  Points are earned for the success of each Team sport in the fall, winter and spring seasons.  ONLY sports with at least 30% participation throughout the WPIAL schools are included.

With its third Class AAA MSA Sports Cup, South Fayette passes Moon and Mars as two time champs for the most titles in the 13 years of the chase for the Triple-A Sports Cup.
