WPIAL Saturday’s Scholastic Starz – Week Five

Weather wise it was a good day for a light WPIAL football schedule on Saturday with nasty wet and windy conditions for the three scheduled Class A games. Speaking of nasty, it was more like 2 1/2 games played as the Monessen at Wilkinsburg game was stopped midway through the third quarter because of a shoving match that escalated into a fight between the two teams. Without having seen the incident, there is no rush to judgment except to say anytime a high school game is stopped early, it is not good.
Frank Antuono – Neshannock
It has already been a looooong season for Western Beaver, and their first half of the season suffering continued when Neshannock came to Industry in the rain Saturday afternoon. Lancers quarterback Frank Antuono was a bright light on a dark, dank day as he hit on 21 of 33 passes for 346 yards and five touchdown passes of 35, 40, 13, 6 and 1 yard in a one-sided 36-8 victory over the host Golden Beavers that improved Neshannock to 4-1 overall while keeping Western Beaver winless.
Harrison Dreher – Clairton
Could top-ranked Clairton be caught looking ahead to a Week 6 showdown against Jeannette by overlooking Riverview? We found out early the answer was NO!!!! Running back Harrison Dreher slushed his way to 117 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns on runs of 19, 29 and 8 yards, plus he tossed a 51-yard touchdown pass to Tre-Sean Howard on a halback option as the Bears raced out to a 32-0 first quarter lead en route to a 54-6 drubbing of the host Raiders in a Class A Eastern Conference game.
Lavelle Rush – Monessen
Hard to hand out a star in a game that was stopped early like this Class A Eastern Conference game was, however we won’t ‘rush’ to judgment and give a tip of the cap to Lavelle Rush. The Monessen running back scored on an 8-yard run, threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Altomore and finally in a reversal of roles, caught a 28-yard scoring pass from Altomore as the Greyhounds improved to 4-1 overall with an 18-0 asterisk victory over the host Wilkinsburg Tigers.
