High school roundup for Nov. 25, 2024: Verszyla brothers boost Pine-Richland to win

AJ and Carson Verszyla each had a goal and an assist to lead Pine-Richland to a 3-1 victory over South Fayette in PIHL Class 3A hockey Monday night. Josh Lanyard also scored for Pine-Richland (3-5). Ivan Kalinkou scored for South Fayette (3-4-1).

Avonworth 8, North Hills 2 – Austin Dzadovsky had two goals and two assists and Cooper Powell also scored twice for Avonworth (7-2) in a Class A win. Richard Malsch added a goal and three assists and Brendan Hennigan had a goal and an assist. Ameer Cooper and Cole Hunt scored for North Hills (3-4).

Beaver 4, Kiski 2 – Sammy Mecchia and Trevor Schmidt each had a goal and an assist to lead Beaver over Kiski in Class A. Zack Masters and Danny Cogis also scored for Beaver (2-5-1). Jacob Kraus and Brody Zeigler scored for Kiski (0-7-1).

Deer Lakes 5, Carrick 4 (SO) – Ryan Grunden had two goals and an assist and Mason Cervone and RJ Norkus each added a goal and an assist as Deer Lakes (5-4) won in a shootout in Division 2. Landon Jeffrey and Shane Birkenfeld scored in the final 1:07 of regulation for Carrick (4-3-2) to force overtime.

Knoch 3, Burrell 2 – Nick Olshanski had a goal and an assist and Brady Linamen and Mick Ritts also scored to help Knoch (4-1-1) to a Division 2 win. Brody Lyle made 45 saves. Julian Kemp had a goal and an assist and Mike Morazcyzk also scored for Burrell (7-2).

Mars 6, Freeport 1 – Gavin Stevenson had two goals and two assists, Jack Weaver added two goals and one assist and Ethan Vactor also scored twice to lead Mars (7-3) to a Class A win. Zach Bowser scored for Freeport (1-9).

Montour 12, Meadville 4 – Cole Dallas had a hat trick with two assists and Niko Sikorski had three goals and one assist to power Montour (6-2) to a Class A win. Trey Varga had two goals and three assists and Aiden Moskovitz added a goal and six assists for a seven-point night. Robert Mahoney had two goals and an assist for Meadville (3-6).

Moon 6, West Allegheny 2 – Eric Hartman had two goals and an assist and Clayton Foster added a goal and an assist for Moon (9-1) in a Class A win. Brody Eckert, Jordan Rieke and Quin Tyler also scored. Logan Dietrich and John Wineland had goals for West Allegheny (3-5).

Neshannock 7, Bishop Canevin 4 – Brady Liguore, John Moniodes, Sam Mezzanotte, Hayden Tatterson and Matthew Shaffer all had a goal and an assist in a Division 2 win for Neshannock (6-2). Fionn Hites had two goals and an assist and Jayden Martincic added a goal and an assist for Bishop Canevin (3-4).

Penn-Trafford 9, Hempfield 2 – Aiden Drotos had two goals and two assists and Robert Thatcher added two goals and one assist to lead Penn-Trafford (8-2) to a Class 2A win. Brock Bienemann collected a goal and two assists and Roman Catello and Cam Kiste each had a goal and an assist. Jonny Holtzman and Nick Crupie scored for Hempfield (3-4).

Quaker Valley 9, Greensburg Salem 3 – Jace Vasbinder racked up three goals and two assists and Max Modrovich and Charlie Pyle each had two goals and an assist to lead Quaker Valley (10-0) to a Class A win. Ben McHenry had a goal and four assists. Cooper Outly, Luke Dieter and Bryce Ferace scored for Greensburg Salem (2-5).

Thomas Jefferson 6, Bethel Park 3 – Lucas Blose scored a hat trick and Derek Schliebner added two goals and two assists to lead Thomas Jefferson (5-4) to a Class 3A victory. Vincent Casamassa also scored and Jake Simon had two assists. Lucas Bombich and Ian Majernik had a goal and an assist apiece and Nick Hosbach also scored for Bethel Park (1-8).
