Notable changes to the 2025-26 WPIAL boys tennis alignment

The WPIAL released new section alignments for the next two-year cycle in all sports, and changes will be implemented starting this fall.
This summer, the Tribune-Review will break down changes for each of the WPIAL sports.
Here’s a look at the upcoming WPIAL boys tennis season:
2024 WPIAL championships
Class 3A: North Allegheny
Class 2A: Sewickley Academy
Notable changes
• Class 3A boys tennis grew by five teams for the next two-year cycle, with each being spread into the four sections.
Latrobe and Kiski Area will join Section 1, Sewickley Academy moves into Section 2, Thomas Jefferson bumps up to Section 3, and Section 4 will welcome Chartiers Valley.
• Several teams moved around in Class 2A, which shrunk from five sections to four.
Burrell, West Mifflin and Winchester Thurston moved over into Section 1. Carlynton, Keystone Oaks and Montour moved into Section 2. Quaker Valley and West Allegheny slid into Section 3, and Ambridge moved over to Section 4.

• St. Joseph will not play a WPIAL schedule for the next two-year cycle.
Past champions
• Sewickley Academy added to its WPIAL leading number of championships the past two seasons to give the Panthers 25 titles overall. They won 15 straight titles from 2004-18.
• Other schools with five or more crowns include Mt. Lebanon (18), Upper St. Clair (16), Edgewood (9), Shady Side Academy (8), Fox Chapel (5), North Allegheny (5) and Latrobe (5).

Section 4: Bethel Park, Canon-McMillan, Chartiers Valley, Mt. Lebanon, Peters Township, South Fayette, Trinity, Upper St. Clair
