High school roundup for Sept. 24, 2024: Penn-Trafford nets OT winner vs. Allderdice

Yuriy Bidochko scored the winning goal to lift Penn-Trafford to a 2-1 overtime victory over Allderdice (6-2-1, 4-1-1) in Section 3-3A boys soccer Tuesday night. Noah Haslam also scored for the Warriors (5-3-1, 4-2-1).

Belle Vernon 7, Uniontown 1 – Trevor Kovatch scored four goals and Brandon Yeschenko had two goals and two assists to lead Belle Vernon (5-5, 2-5) past Uniontown (2-7, 0-7) in Section 3-3A. Jesse Sobczak also scored and Chris Showman had two assists for the Leopards.

Bethel Park 2, South Fayette 1 – Xavier Jackson scored the winning goal in the final second of regulation to lift Bethel Park (7-2, 7-1) past South Fayette (4-7, 4-4) in Section 2-3A.

Burrell 7, Leechburg 0 – Billy Kowalkowski scored a hat trick and had an assist to pace Burrell (5-5, 5-3) in a Section 1-2A win against Leechburg (1-9, 1-6). Kooper Luffy and Brayden Vicker each had a goal and an assist while Marian Sirota and Ashton Anderson also scored for the Bucs.

Carlynton 4, Chartiers-Houston 0 – Hamza Alezzo scored a pair of goals and added an assist and Mateo Carrasco netted a goal and an assist to lead Carlynton (8-3, 4-1) to a nonsection win against Chartiers-Houston (1-10, 1-3).

Charleroi 8, Southmoreland 2 – Dylan Klinger recorded a hat trick while Otis McIntyre, Landon Barcus and Blake Pendo netted a goal apiece as Charleroi (9-0, 8-0) cruised to a Section 4-2A win over Southmoreland (7-4, 5-3). Caleb Amoroso and Nolan Mosco each added a goal for the Cougars.

Elizabeth Forward 9, South Allegheny 2 – Aidan Davis scored a hat trick and had an assist and Dominic Cavalier scored a goal and tallied three assists to lead Elizabeth Forward (8-2-1, 7-0-1) to a Section 3-2A win over South Allegheny (3-7, 2-5). Ethan Childers, Ronald Hallas and Luca Valerio each had a goal and an assist while Vincenzo Riccardi and Carson Ruffing both scored for the Warriors.

Gateway 4, Springdale 2 – James LoCoco scored a hat trick and Owen Echegaray netted a goal for Gateway (6-4) in a nonsection win over Springdale (7-2).

Hampton 0, Mars 0 – For the second time this season, Section 1-3A contenders Mars (7-1-3, 5-1-2) and Hampton (5-1-3, 3-1-3) played to a scoreless draw.

Highlands 12, Valley 3 – Ryan Maloney scored eight goals and tallied an assist while Cainen McCann netted a pair of goals and had three assists as Highlands (4-4-1, 3-4-1) rolled to a Section 1-2A win over Valley (0-9, 0-7). Dean Besterman had a goal and three assists and Colton Anderson also scored for the Golden Rams.

Keystone Oaks 13, Ellwood City 1 – Angel Belduma had a hat trick and Ian Davis and Ermias Berhane added two goals apiece for Keystone Oaks (4-4-1, 4-4-1) in a Section 2-2A win over Ellwood City (0-10, 0-9).

Latrobe 3, West Mifflin 2 – Roman Agostoni had two goals and an assist and Warren Agostoni added a goal and an assist for Latrobe (7-3, 6-1) in a Section 3-3A win. Greyson Black and Austin Kurta scored for West Mifflin (2-6, 2-5).

Laurel Highlands 3, Thomas Jefferson 2 (OT) – Cole Radcliffe scored the game-winning goal to lead Laurel Highlands (4-5-1, 3-5) past Thomas Jefferson (6-1-2, 5-1-2) in the completion of a Section 2-3A game suspended Aug. 27.

Moon 9, Baldwin 0 – Luiz Silva and Hayden Dunn scored two goals apiece for Moon (11-0, 6-0) in a Section 4-3A win over Baldwin (0-9-1, 0-6-1). Aedan Costa, Marc Haupt, Cullen Felton, Krish Lal and Gavin McConaghy also scored for the Tigers.

Mt. Lebanon 3, Chartiers Valley 1 – Jack O’Brien recorded a hat trick as Mt. Lebanon (7-4) ran its win streak to four straight with a nonsection win against Chartiers Valley (5-4).

Mt. Pleasant 5, Brownsville 1 – Aidan Johnson and Tyke Snyder led Mt. Pleasant (9-4, 8-1) with two goals apiece and Tyler Kurtz added a goal in a Section 4-2A win over Brownsville (2-6-1, 2-5-1).

North Catholic 4, OLSH 1 – Justin Garvey had two goals and an assist and Arthur Mendonca and Angelo Amelio added a goal and an assist each to lead North Catholic (9-2) to a nonsection win over OLSH (7-10).

Ringgold 4, Albert Gallatin 0 – Nick Evans scored twice while Lucas Wukovich and Josh Molisee each added a goal as Ringgold (6-3-1, 5-1-1) shut out Albert Gallatin (1-8, 1-7) in a Section 2-3A contest.

Seton LaSalle 4, East Allegheny 0 – Tyler Kovalcik scored two goals for Seton LaSalle (7-3, 6-2) in a Section 3-2A win over East Allegheny (2-8, 0-8).

Shaler 4, Kiski Area 1 – Alex Gaetano, Tazanie Hinds, Michael McKenna and Tobin Watkins scored to lead Shaler (3-6-1, 3-5-1) in a Section 1-3A win. Adam Troya converted a penalty kick for Kiski Area (0-10, 0-8).

Thomas Jefferson 5, Laurel Highlands 0 – Brayden Miller led Thomas Jefferson (6-1-2, 5-1-2) with four goals and Owen Householder added a goal in a Section 2-3A win over Laurel Highlands (4-5-1, 3-5).

Trinity 10, McKeesport 0 – Cooper Cincinnati recorded a hat trick and Nathan Jones buried two goals to lead Trinity (4-4-2, 4-2-1) to a Section 2-3A shutout win against McKeesport (0-10, 0-8). Camden Proudfit, Brady Anderson, Collin Reihner, Andy Palm and Jace Jordan each added a goal for the Hillers.

Waynesburg 2, Derry 1 (OT) – Brendan Cole scored both goals for Waynesburg (2-6-1, 2-5-1) in a Section 4-2A win over Derry (3-8, 2-6).

West Allegheny 5, Ambridge 1 – Harrison Murray scored a pair of goals while Aaron Bouch, Milo Kent and Colton Yonker each added a goal as West Allegheny (6-4, 5-2) topped Ambridge (2-4, 2-4) in Section 4-3A.

Girls soccer

Bentworth 16, Carrick 0 – Megan Keturakis had a hat trick and Bella Moyer added two goals for Bentworth (8-1) in a nonsection win over Carrick (0-5).

West Mifflin 8, South Allegheny 0 – Jada Downs scored a hat trick as West Mifflin (2-7-1) defeated South Allegheny (3-8) in a nonsection match.

Volleyball

Beaver 3, Blackhawk 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 15 kills and Lanie Malobabich added 10 kills while Aubrey Bumblis had 19 digs and Zoe Ringer dished out 28 assists as Beaver (7-3, 5-0) blanked Blackhawk (7-2, 4-1) in straight sets in Section 4-3A.

Brownsville 3, Chartiers-Houston 0 – Payton Evanchak had 11 assists, Skyler Gates landed 16 kills and Ashley Evanchak added 22 digs to lead Brownsville (4-6, 3-4) to a Section 3-2A win against Chartiers-Houston (1-9, 1-6).

Knoch 3, Valley 0 – Jess Farbacher had 11 digs and nine kills while Laney Snyder tallied seven kills to lead Knoch (4-5, 2-3) in a Section 2-3A victory over Valley (1-8, 0-5).

Ligonier Valley 3, Deer Lakes 1 – Rylee Monticue had 14 kills, four blocks and 10 assists and Marlee Miller added 12 kills and 10 aces to lead Ligonier Valley (5-3, 2-1) to a Section 5-2A win over Deer Lakes (3-6, 1-4). Kya Hegan dished out 16 assists and Emily Rankin had six kills for the Rams.

Mapletown 3, Avella 0 – Marley Shiflett had 12 assists and seven digs, Marley Seward had 11 aces and Treslee Weston added nine kills as Mapletown (2-6, 1-4) swept Avella (0-9, 0-5) in Section 3-A. Miranda Fox had eight kills for the Maples.

St. Joseph 3, Apollo-Ridge 0 – Kate Giannetta had 11 kills and Veronica McCarthy added seven kills as St. Joseph (9-2, 5-0) swept Apollo-Ridge (5-3, 4-1) in a Section 1-A win.

Boys golf

WPIAL championships – Fox Chapel’s Carson Kittsley shot a 1-over 73 to take the first-round lead at Southpointe GC in the Class 3A tournament.

Baldwin’s Michael Quallich, Peters Township’s Colton Lusk, Peters Township, North Allegheny’s Ravi Desai and Pine-Richland’s William Hilton are one stroke back. Plum’s Wes Lorish and Franklin Regional’s Colin Holt are two strokes off the lead.

The final round, which includes the top 36 and ties, is set for Oct. 1 at Oakmont CC.
