Notable changes to the 2025-26 WPIAL girls lacrosse alignment

The WPIAL released new section alignments for the next two-year cycle in all sports, and changes will be implemented starting this fall.
This summer, TribLive will break down changes for each of the WPIAL sports.
Here’s a look at the upcoming WPIAL girls lacrosse season:
2024 WPIAL championships
Class 3A: Mt. Lebanon
Class 2A: Mars
Notable changes
• Four teams moved up to Class 3A for the next two-year cycle of girls lacrosse — Latrobe, Penn-Trafford and Plum will compete in Section 1, and Moon in Section 2.
• Freeport and Sewickley Academy dropped down to Class 2A and will play in Section 2. Seton LaSalle, and Trinity moved over to Section 1 from Section 2 to even out the Class 2A sections at 11 teams.
Past champions
• Mt. Lebanon moved into the top spot as the leader in WPIAL girls lacrosse championships after claiming a sixth district title last spring.
• Other teams with multiple titles include Peters Township (5), Mars (3), Pine-Richland (3), Quaker Valley (3), Shady Side Academy (3), Shaler (3), Hampton (2) and North Hills (2).

Section 2: Allderdice, Butler, Fox Chapel, Moon, North Allegheny, North Hills, Pine-Richland, Seneca Valley, Shady Side Academy, Shaler
Class 2A (22 teams)
Section 1: Ellis School, Franklin Regional, Greensburg Central Catholic, Greensburg Salem, Hampton, Indiana, Oakland Catholic, Seton LaSalle, Trinity, Winchester Thurston, Yough
Section 2: Ambridge, Aquinas Academy, Blackhawk, Chartiers Valley, Freeport, Knoch, Mars, North Catholic, Quaker Valley, Sewickley Academy, South Fayette
