High school roundup for Sept. 19, 2024: North Allegheny beats Fox Chapel to grab share of 1st place

Leonardo Yu scored a second-half goal, assisted by Zach Nash, to lift North Allegheny to a 1-0 victory over Fox Chapel in a matchup of top teams in Section 3-4A boys soccer Thursday night.

Ryan Young recorded the shutout for the Tigers. North Allegheny (7-2-1, 4-1) and Fox Chapel (6-2-1, 4-1) are now tied for first place in the section.

Avonworth 4, Beaver 1 – Calder Mahan, Tucker Jennings, Abdoulaye Barry and James Quinn scored to lead Avonworth (7-2, 7-1) to a Section 2-2A win against Beaver (4-3-1, 3-3-1).

Beth-Center 10, California 2 – Nekoda Bundy led Beth-Center (5-2-1, 2-2) with five goals, Parker Amos had three goals and four assists and Acie Lawrence and Luke Amon added a goal apiece in a Section 2-A win over California (0-5, 0-4).

Bethel Park 2, Ringgold 0 – Xavier Jackson had a goal and an assist, Max LeMessurier also scored and Luke Rubican kept a clean sheet for Bethel Park (6-2, 6-1) in a Section 2-3A win over Ringgold (5-2-1, 4-1-1).

Brentwood 3, Bishop Canevin 0 – Carlos Duran scored all three goals and Jeremy Steele preserved the shutout for Brentwood (4-4, 1-4) in a Section 3-A win over Bishop Canevin (1-8, 0-5).

Burrell 1, Freeport 0 – Parker Pruitt scored for Burrell (4-4, 4-3) in a Section 1-2A win over Freeport (4-4-2, 2-3-2). Kooper Luffy recorded an assist and Ben Doland preserved the shutout.

Central Valley 4, Riverside 0 – Cameron DeVincentis scored a pair of goals for Central Valley (9-0, 7-0) in a Section 2-2A shutout victory over Riverside (2-7, 2-5).

Deer Lakes 11, Leechburg 0 – Artemey Parshyn scored a pair of goals and had four assists, Jacob Orseno scored two goals and chipped in with two assists while Peyton Kushon and Collin Rodgers each added two goals as Deer Lakes (8-2-1, 6-1) blanked Leechburg (1-8, 1-5) in Section 1-2A. Waylon Schiller, Zane Spence and Cuyler Crim each tallied a goal for the Lancers.

Franklin Regional 2, Allderdice 0 – Cruise Lamanna and Danny Christafano scored for Franklin Regional (5-2, 4-1) in a Section 3-3A win over Allderdice (6-2-1, 4-1-1).

Gateway 6, Hempfield 2 – James LoCoco scored a hat trick, Ryan Helman added a goal and an assist and Cam Simon finished with a pair of assists as Gateway (4-4, 3-2) defeated Hempfield (2-7, 1-4) in Section 1-4A.

Greensburg Central Catholic 9, Chartiers-Houston 0 – Grant Brewer had a hat trick and Jackson Vacanti collected two goals and five assists to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (3-2-1, 3-1) past Chartiers-Houston (1-8, 1-3) in Section 2-A. Nikolas Miller and Gavin Rigby each had two goals and an assist and Isaac House made three saves to record the shutout.

Hampton 2, Knoch 0 – Xavier Ware and Gavin Copelin scored, assisted by Jake Killian and Carson Colvin, to lead Hampton (5-1-2, 3-1-2) past Knoch (3-6, 3-4) in Section 1-3A.

Mars 3, Shaler 0 – Max Davis, Sean Scanlon and Nick Butler scored to lead Mars (7-1-2, 5-1-1) past Shaler (2-6-1, 2-4-1) in a Section 1-3A win.

Moon 11, Blackhawk 0 – Marc Haupt and Zech Balbach each had two goals and an assist to pace Moon (10-0, 5-0) in a Section 4-3A shutout win over Blackhawk (0-6-1, 0-5-1). Evan Thomas, Cullen Felton and Hayden Dunn had a goal and an assist apiece while Greyson Engutan, Rhys Hollowood, Gavin McConaghy and Ryan Bures all recorded a goal for the Tigers.

Mt. Lebanon 6, Connellsville 1 – Victor Slack, Aaron Henck, Jack O’Brien, Benton Thompson and Jonathan Frew scored for Mt. Lebanon (6-4, 3-2) in a Section 2-4A win over Connellsville (2-8, 0-5).

North Catholic 14, Valley 1 – Justin Garvey had a hat trick and Arthur Mendonca and Ryan Mueser each scored two goals to lead North Catholic (8-2, 7-1) past Valley (0-7, 0-6) in Section 1-2A. Angelo Amelio, Brody Kennedy and Ben Kennedy each had a goal and an assist for the Trojans.

OLSH 2, Aquinas Academy 1 (OT) – Aaron Callahan buried a rebound off a Seth Therrien shot two minutes in overtime to boost OLSH (7-0, 5-0) past Aquinas Academy (5-2, 3-2) in Section 3-A. Wyatt Walsh opened the scoring in the first half for the Chargers.

Penn-Trafford 6, Belle Vernon 2 – JJ Porter and Yuriy Bidochko scored two goals apiece to power Penn-Trafford (4-3-1, 3-2-1) past Belle Vernon (3-5, 1-5) in Section 3-3A.

Peters Township 4, Woodland Hills 0 – Anthony Maiello recorded a hat trick and Brett Martin added a goal to lead Peters Township (8-1-1, 5-0) to a Section 2-4A win against Woodland Hills (4-5, 1-4).

Pine-Richland 3, Butler 2 – Finn Kichi, Brady Baker and Jordan Crutchfield scored for Pine-Richland (4-6, 2-3) in a Section 3-4A win over Butler (2-6-1, 0-5).

Riverview 3, St. Joseph 0 – Drew Hunter, Liam Ulrich and Chris O’Toole each scored to lead Riverview (3-4, 2-3) to its third straight win with a Section 4-1A victory over St. Joseph (1-8, 0-5). Quinn Fischer recorded his first shutout of the year for the Raiders.

Southmoreland 3, Yough 2 – Jack Smith had a hat trick for Southmoreland (7-2, 5-1) in a Section 4-2A win over Yough (1-3-2, 1-3-2).

Thomas Jefferson 10, McKeesport 0 – Brayden Miller and Jake Shoemaker each had a hat trick and Evan Olsan added two goals for Thomas Jefferson (5-0-3, 4-0-3) in a Section 2-3A win over McKeesport (0-9, 0-7).

Seneca Valley 2, Fox Chapel 2 – Ashlee Libby scored a pair of second-half goals as Seneca Valley (6-2-1) rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie Fox Chapel (7-0-1) in a nonsection match.

Waynesburg 4, Washington 2 – Rylei Rastoka scored a goal and had an assist while Kolbi Rastoka, Emily Rafferty and Jaden Tretinik each had a goal as Waynesburg (8-1) bested Washington in nonsection play.

Beaver 3, Ambridge 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 13 kills, Sophia Sharpless and Malaya Oster had 10 digs apiece, Zoe Ringer dished out 19 assists and Kayden Blinn followed with 10 assists for Beaver (6-3, 4-0) in a Section 4-3A win over Ambridge (2-7, 1-3).

Brownsville 3, Burgettstown 1 – Skyler Gates had 18 kills, Ashley Evanchak had 29 digs and Kenzie Adams directed 21 assists as Brownsville (2-6, 2-4) beat Burgettstown (4-5, 2-4) in Section 3-2A.

Canon-McMillan 3, Upper St. Clair 0 – Natalie Carr had 14 kills and 12 digs, Abby Tucker added six kills and Cali Dagen had five kills and 18 digs for Canon-McMillan (7-0, 4-0) in a Section 1-4A win over Upper St. Clair (5-2, 3-1).

Carmichaels 3, West Greene 1 – Ashton Batis led Carmichaels (6-4, 4-0) with 27 digs, Pacey Pratt had 16 digs and 11 kills and Avery Voithofer added 15 digs and 24 assists in a Section 3-A win over West Greene (4-2, 3-1). Bailey Barnyak had 13 kills for Carmichaels.

Hempfield 3, Plum 1 – Lauren Howard had 15 kills and 21 digs and Claire Mitchell also recorded 15 kills to lead Hempfield (5-2, 4-0) past Plum (4-3, 1-3) in Section 3-4A. Jillian Sowers had 33 digs and Preslee Horchak dished out 37 assists for the Spartans.

Jefferson-Morgan 3, Mapletown 1 – Lucca Jellots had 26 digs, Emilee Bazzoli added 17 digs and Alisa Long had 11 digs and 11 kills as Jefferson-Morgan (4-4, 2-1) defeated Mapletown (1-5, 0-4) in Section 3-1A. Mia Bertagnolli had 18 assists for the Rockets. Treslee Weston had 14 digs for the Maples.

Ligonier Valley 3, Yough 2 – Rylee Monticue had 15 kills, Lacy Sosko added 11 kills and Marlee Miller had nine kills for Ligonier Valley (4-3, 1-1) in a Section 5-2A win over Yough (5-4, 2-2).

Mars 3, Knoch 1 – Rylee Wooldridge had 20 kills, Ella Nicotra and Cecilia Christy each had 10 kills and Gabi Weidemann handed out 40 assists for Mars (6-3, 4-0) in a Section 2-3A win. Jess Farbacher had 11 digs, Alena Tekely followed with 10 digs and had 12 assists for Knoch (3-5, 1-3).

Moon 3, West Allegheny 0 – Reese Kelsar had 12 kills, Jayla Brown followed with 10 kills and Elina Antoniades dished out 22 assists to lead Moon (4-4, 2-3) to a Section 1-3A win against West Allegheny (1-7, 0-5).

New Brighton 3, Northgate 0 – Alaya McKenzie had 10 digs and 10 kills, Elsie Gerrich followed with 10 digs and Sundi Fazio produced 18 assists as New Brighton (5-3, 3-3) swept Northgate (4-6, 1-5) in straight sets in a Section 1-2A.

St. Joseph 3, Riverview 1 – Kenzie Jones had eight kills and Kate Giannetta served up six aces to lead St. Joseph (8-2, 4-0) to a Section 1-A win over Riverview (1-6, 0-4).
