Mark Bence scored the overtime winner to lead Shady Side Academy (1-0-1, 1-0-1) to a 2-1 victory over Deer Lakes (2-1, 1-1) in an early season matchup of Section 1-2A boys soccer contenders Thursday night.
Allderdice 4, West Mifflin 0 – Jacek Piekut had a goal and two assists and Aidan Thomas and Luke Peña also scored for Allderdice (2-1, 1-0) in a Section 3-3A win over West Mifflin (0-2, 0-2).
Avonworth 3, Quaker Valley 0 – Abdul Basit had a hat trick to power Avonworth (2-0, 2-0) to a Section 2-2A win over Quaker Valley (1-3, 1-1).
Beaver 7, Mohawk 0 – Anthony Furda had a hat trick and Ryan Perez added two goals to lead Beaver (1-1, 1-1) to a Section 2-2A win over Mohawk (0-2, 0-2).
Bentworth 7, Serra Catholic 1 – Adam Moessner and Ryan Moessner scored two goals apiece to lead Bentworth (3-0) past Serra Catholic (0-4) in a nonsection win.
Brentwood 3, South Side 1 – Carlos Duran recorded a hat trick to lift Brentwood (2-0) to a nonsection victory over South Side (0-2).
Burrell 9, Valley 3 – Brady Vickers scored two goals and Billy Kowalkowski had a goal and three assists to lead Burrell (2-0, 2-0) past Valley (0-2, 0-2) in a Section 1-2A win. Calio Zanella, Vin Guerrini and Parker Pruitt added a goal and an assist apiece for the Bucs.
Canon-McMillan 5, Gateway 2 – Adam Kuchera had two goals and two assists to lead Canon-McMillan (2-0-1) to a nonsection win over Gateway (1-2). Roman Pasquarelli and Gavin Patterson added a goal and an assist and Cole Debbis also scored for the Big Macs.
Freeport 10, Leechburg 0 – Carson Rowley, Xavier Dewitt and Ryan Sutara scored two goals apiece for Freeport (2-0-1, 1-0-1) in a Section 1-2A win over Leechburg (0-3, 0-2).
Latrobe 9, Uniontown 4 – Roman Agostoni had three goals and two assists and Warren Agostoni collected two goals and two assists to power Latrobe (2-1, 2-0) past Uniontown (0-2, 0-2) in Section 3-3A. Jacob Stephenson added two goals and an assist and Cam Mikulski also scored twice for the Wildcats.
Mars 5, Kiski Area 0 – Miles Frazier scored a pair of goals while Zachary Angoff, Frank Knezovich and Jaxon Kosiorek all scored a goal as Mars (3-0-1, 1-0-1) defeated Kiski Area (0-2, 0-2) in Section 1-3A.
Montour 3, Baldwin 0 – Andrew Prunier had a pair of goals and Mitchell Braidic also scored to lead Montour (3-0, 2-0) to a Section 4-3A win over Baldwin (0-2, 0-2).
Mt. Pleasant 5, Derry 0 – Aidan Johnson netted four goals, Ayden Gross added a goal and an assist and Grayson Gardner kept a clean net as Mt. Pleasant (3-0, 2-0) blanked Derry (2-2, 1-1) in Section 4-2A.
Neshannock 3, Wilmington 0 – Zayden Herb led Neshannock (2-0) with two goals in a nonsection win over Wilmington. Nick Bender added a goal for the Lancers.
North Allegheny 1, Upper St. Clair 0 – Lucas Henderson scored the decisive goal to lead North Allegheny (2-1-1) to a nonsection win over Upper St. Clair (1-2-1).
North Catholic 6, Highlands 0 – Angelo Amelio had a hat trick, Justin Garvey scored twice and Arthur Mendonca also had a goal to lead North Catholic (2-2, 1-1) past Highlands (1-1, 1-1) in Section 1-2A.
OLSH 2, Eden Christian 0 – Brady Hernandez and Owen Minzer scored to lift OLSH (2-0) to a nonsection win over Eden Christian (0-1-1).
Plum 1, Peters Township 0 – Eli Wastchak scored the decisive goal and Chase Eber and Brady McLaughlin combined on the shutout as Plum (2-0-2) blanked Peters Township (2-1) in a nonsection match.
Ringgold 1, Laurel Highlands 0 – Jack Brodak scored to lead Ringgold (3-0, 2-0) past Laurel Highlands (0-1-1, 0-1-1) in a Section 2-3A win.
Seneca Valley 7, Norwin 2 – Seneca Valley (3-1) was led by Owen Eastgate and Tyler Prex, who each scored a pair of goals, while Mark McConahy, Jake Phillips and Carson Hawkinson added a goal apiece in a nonsection win against Norwin (1-2).
Seton LaSalle 5, Ligonier Valley 1 – Sawyer Sisk and Alex Martinez scored their first varsity goals and Darius Norkevicus, Tyler Kovalcik and Sal Pasquale also found the net for the Seton LaSalle (3-0, 2-0) in a Section 3-2A win over Ligonier Valley (1-2, 0-2).
South Fayette 11, McKeesport 1 – Luke Gillen scored a hat trick while Jude Kwiatek, Grevil Garcia-Ardon and Ryan Bradely scored two goals apiece to lead South Fayette (1-1, 1-1) to a Section 2-3A win over McKeesport (0-3, 0-2). Dylan Davis added a goal for the Lions.
Southmoreland 1, Greensburg Salem 0 – Hunter Ryan scored for Southmoreland (3-1, 1-1) in a Section 4-2A win over Greensburg Salem (0-2, 0-2).
Thomas Jefferson 2, Bethel Park 0 – Brayden Miller scored both goals for Thomas Jefferson (1-0-1, 1-0-1) in a Section 2-3A shutout of Bethel Park (1-2, 1-1). Sam Wessel kept a clean sheet for the Jaguars.
Trinity 4, Albert Gallatin 0 – Brady Anderson, Andy Palm, John Garcia and Collin Reihner each scored to lead Trinity (2-1, 2-0) to a Section 2-3A win over Albert Gallatin (0-2, 0-2).
West Allegheny 9, Carlynton 0 – Aaron Bouch had a hat trick for West Allegheny (2-1) in a nonsection win over Carrick (2-2).
Girls soccer
Carlynton 2, South Side 1 – Gigi Choate scored the tying goal late in regulation and Riley Mauro netted the game-winner in overtime as Carlynton (2-1) picked up a nonsection win over South Side (0-2).
Freeport 3, Butler 2 – Elena Jenkins had a pair of goals, Tess Hanak also scored and Camryn Woods dished out two assists to lead Freeport (2-0) to a nonsection win. Cecilia Wolford scored twice for Butler (0-20).
Greensburg Salem 3, Ligonier Valley 0 – Olivia Smith, Raegan Goulding and Kayla Ramer scored and Alice Wilkinson recorded the shutout for Greensburg Salem (1-2) in a nonsection win over Ligonier Valley (1-1).
Mohawk 10, Sharpsville 2 – Ava Ernst scored a hat trick while Catelin Bradley and Laura McKinney each chipped in a goal as Mohawk (1-1) beat Sharpsville in nonsection play.
Obama Academy 5, McKeesport 0 – Brooklyn Potter had a hat trick, fellow freshmen Luna Mengine and Nahla Brice also scored, and Lucy Carloff recorded her first career shutout to lead Obama Academy (1-1) to a nonsection win over McKeesport.
Quaker Valley 7, OLSH 0 – Annabel Miko buried four goals, Ari Bosh scored a pair and June Lasavage added a goal as Quaker Valley (2-0) shut out OLSH (1-2) in a nonsection match.
Shaler 1, Shady Side Academy 0 – Lia Wallander scored the lone goal for Shaler (1-1) in a nonsection win over Shady Side Academy (1-2).
Football
Westinghouse 52, Linsly (WV) 0 – Khalil Green scored on runs of 15 and 11 yards and hit Lloyd Penn on a 40-yard scoring strike to help Westinghouse (1-1) rebound from a season-opening loss. Jaylon Stanford, Khalil Mitchell and Ayron Pride also scored rushing touchdowns and Jamarrow Trowery and Jakai Collins scored on defense for the Bulldogs.
Girls volleyball
Canon-McMillan 3, Montour 0 – Natalie Carr had 13 kills and Abby Tucker added 10 kills and three blocks to lead Canon-McMillan (2-0) to a nonsection win. Brooke Peters handed out 17 assists and Sophia Powell had eight digs and four aces for the Big Macs.
Chartiers Valley 3, Brentwood 0 – Payton Friburger had 15 kills, Addison Varnish handed out 20 assists and Emerson Kutschbach had six digs to lead Chartiers Valley to a nonsection win.
Hampton 3, Thomas Jefferson 0 – Payton Galietti delivered 10 kills, Marin Katona-Bock had 10 digs and 11 aces, and Kassidy Thompson dished out 16 assists to lead Hampton to a nonsection win.
McKeesport 3, Penn Hills 1 – Jenesis Kisasonak had nine kills, Danyla Glover recorded 15 digs and Jourdin Allen served seven aces for McKeesport in a nonsection win.
Moon 3, Ringgold 0 – Elina Antoniades had 26 assists, seven kills and four aces to lead Moon to a nonsection sweep. Abbie Warnagiris’ added five kills and three blocks, Jayla Brown had eight kills and Reese Keslar and Alicia DeCaria each added seven kills for the Tigers.
New Brighton 3, Rochester 0 – Alaya McKenzie had six kills, Sundi Fazio had nine kills and four aces, and Chloe Huddy recorded 12 digs for New Brighton (2-0) in a nonsection win.
Pine-Richland 3, Mars 1 – Lily Javor had 10 kills and 16 digs while Cecilia Christy added five kills and eight blocks for Mars (1-1) in a nonsection match against Pine-Richland (1-1).
St. Joseph 3, Allderdice 0 – Gia Richter had three kills as St. Joseph (2-1) swept Allderdice.
Field hockey
Pine-Richland 15, Hempfield 0 – Anna Merlack recorded a hat trick as Pine-Richland (1-0, 1-0) rolled to a Class 3A victory over Hempfield (0-1, 0-1).
