Notable changes to WPIAL swimming, diving alignment for 2024-25, 2025-26 seasons

The WPIAL released new section alignments for the next two-year cycle in all sports, and changes will be implemented starting this fall.

This summer, the Tribune-Review will break down changes for each of the WPIAL sports.

Here is a look at the upcoming WPIAL 2024-25 and 2025-26 swimming and diving seasons.

2023-24 WPIAL boys champions

WPIAL Class 3A: North Allegheny

WPIAL Class 2A: Indiana

2023-24 WPIAL girls champions

WPIAL Class 3A: North Allegheny

WPIAL Class 2A: Kiski Area

Notable changes

Sixty-nine boys swimming and diving teams and 70 girls teams will compete between Class 3A and Class 2A in the next two-year cycle. Class 3A has four sections with 30 teams, and Class 2A has six sections with 39 teams (40 for girls).

There are a few noteworthy changes in the sectional alignment.

• The biggest change is Burrell and North Catholic will not field teams the next two seasons.

• Additionally, five teams moved to a different classification.

Trinity, after a winless season, moved down to Class 2A to compete in Section 5.

Connellsville and Kiski Area moved up to Class 3A and will compete in Section 1. Woodland Hills was bumped up to Section 3-3A, and Montour was brought up to Section 4-3A.

Section 2: Butler, Mars*, Moon, North Allegheny, North Hills, Pine-Richland, Seneca Valley

Section 3: Baldwin, Central Catholic (Oakland Catholic), Fox Chapel, Gateway, Penn Hills, Plum, Shaler, Woodland Hills

Section 4: Bethel Park, Canon-McMillan, Montour*, Mt. Lebanon, Peters Township, South Fayette*, Upper St. Clair

Class 2A (39 boys teams, 40 girls teams)

Section 1: Carlynton*, Chartiers Valley, Cornell*, Keystone Oaks, Seton LaSalle, South Park, Ellis School girls

Section 2: Beaver, Beaver Falls*, Blackhawk*, Central Valley, Hopewell, Quaker Valley*, Riverside*, West Allegheny
