Gregory Meyer built up a nice wave of momentum heading into the Big South Championships. The Fox Chapel graduate closed the regular season with a strong performance at the Stitch Intercollegiate at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh.
Meyer led High Point by finishing in a tie for 21st place. Meyer shot a three-round total of 10-over par 223. The Panthers finished 44-over par as a team and finished in 12th place out of 17 teams.
Quakenbush delivers
Fox Chapel graduate Lexi Quackenbush has made big waves for the Bloomsburg tennis team. Recently, Quackenbush pulled double duty to help the Huskies beat Kutztown 5-2 in a PSAC East matchup. Quackenbush teamed with Nicole Illkovic at No. 1 doubles to pick up a 6-2 victory.
Quackenbush also ground out a difficult win at No. 1 singles. She survived a first-set tiebreak against Vera Alejanrda, winning 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
Foxes go 7-1
The Foxes girls lacrosse team has continued its march through the WPIAL regular season. Fox Chapel picked up a pair of match wins against Shaler and Freeport to improve to 7-1.
Caroline Grimsley and Madelyn Jones scored three goals apiece to lead the Foxes in an 18-5 win over the Titans on April 11.
During Fox Chapel’s 15-2 win over Freeport on april 16, Sydney Schutzman and Annie Mohn scored three goals apiece.
Foxes recognized
Fox Chapel split a pair of WPIAL Section 1-5A baseball games against Franklin Regional earlier this month. But the games will best be remembered by a show of sportsmanship from Fox Chapel. The Franklin Regional baseball program thanked Fox Chapel via Twitter for a donation of gift cards and treats made to Luca Bertucci from Franklin Regional.
“A big thank you to the @FCFoxesBaseball families for their heartfelt and generous gesture of donating this wonderful basket of gift cards and treats to Luca Bertucci as he fights cancer,” the Franklin Regional baseball team’s Twitter account posted. “The FR baseball family truly appreciates it.”
